Prestige 250 - Newport UK
It's just around the corner from me but I'm too much of a cheapskate and in any case if GAS strikes again it'll be another Spectrum

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Thanks for that. I'm really tempted but, head ruling the heart, Christmas and 18th birthday of oldest child coming up, its a stretch too far. Would be great if someone else in need on here could avail themselves of your services. Hopefully its a good un and someone here gets it.grogg wrote:Id buy it but already have 2 so happy to get it if necessary and post on. pm me if that's necessary.

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Oh hello everyone. I'm a new owner of a Prestige 250, the one highlighted in this thread. I had never played, or even seen, a Westone guitar before. I am absolutely delighted with it.
I feel I should apologise to anyone else that was interested in this one. It turned out that I was the first person to contact the seller and so he gave me first refusal.
After a busy weekend reading everything I could about the Prestige 250 (mostly on this site) I couldn't wait to see it. I bought it yesterday and after a new set of strings (it hadn't been played for years) and a quick set-up it plays beautifully. I don't often 'click' with a guitar but this is really, really special. A real keeper. And a bargain to boot...
I have a number of questions so I'll try to post them in the correct places....
I'm still just blown away with this thing!
Best regards,
David.

Welcome to an exclusive club. I guarantee that this will be one of the best guitars you ever play. Of course you should know site rule No 1 - photos or it didn't happen.
You grabbed yourself a real bargain there for a guitar that imho outclasses a LP or PRS.

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Many thanks for the welcome Westcoaster! I have taken some photos and when I work out how to post them I'll put some up
Funnily enough I did buy a '93 PRS a few months ago which cost 'rather more' than this Prestige 250. I am so pleased with the Westone, the quality, the condition, the way it plays, the gorgeous looks, fantastic design, etc, etc.
I'm sure after a pro setup it will be even better! The neck needed a tweak or two yesterday as there was a very small amount of back-bow and the frets could probably do with a light dress and polish too.
I really felt for the seller as he had bought it new in '83 but hadn't played it for some time...
I felt a bit guilty that I didn't pay the asking price...
I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy hanging around here and obtaining advice from the experienced members of the forum.
Thanks again for the welcome.
Cheers!
David.

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Just be careful with the tailpiece. Its the one weak link in the design and can be prone to breaking if mistreated. If broken its going to be pretty much impossible to to replace.
That guitar is going to get a lot of attention if you gig it, its a real guitar player magnet.

Hi Westcoaster.
Many thanks for the warning regarding the tailpiece. I'll be especially careful to make sure that it doesn't get damaged. I'm not surprised that these guitars get a lot of attention, they seem very special and are certainly very striking visually.
Cheers!

Love mine (when I can get it off the other guitar player in the band - disadvantage of popping out for a smoke during rehearsals)

Welcome to the forum and congratulations to a super nice guitar!
Just out of curiosity, can I ask when you contacted the seller?
Can say that I was interested in it and had emailed the seller and grogg had promised to help out with all the details concerning the deal (pick it up and sending it). But neither of us did not get any answers at all.
Of course I really would have liked that beauty here in my home but I am glad that it got to someone else who seems to be joyful and happy over it!
Looking forward to see the pictures!

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Hi Society.
Thanks for the welcome. It's very friendly here, which I like!
I can't remember exactly (but I could look it up when I'm back at home) but I think it was Thursday when I replied to the Gumtree ad. I might be wrong about the timing as my memory os appalling.
The seller (who was a gentleman) seemed fairly slow to get back to me. Slow is a relative term as I'm on the computer very frequently and I suppose some people may only check emails once a day (or less). When we did communicate he explained that I was the first to contact him and that he would give me first refusal (that message was definately sent on the Friday). He lies about 5 miles from me so that was very convenient. I tried to visit him first thing Saturday morning but the seller was working all weekend.
He mentioned that there was interest from Sweden when we met on the Monday but I didn't know that he hadn't got back to you.
I can only wish you well in your quest. Sorry this one didn't go well for you, but I have to counteract that with the fact that it has gone to an appreciative home
and it is my very first Westone (and how the hell did I not know about these amazing guitars before then????).
Best regards,
David.

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Welcome David and congrats on the guitar!!
Most people (i.e. me) start with a Thunder and try to work their way up to a Prestige, makes a change to see someone trying it the other way because you do realise that 1 Westone is just never going to be enough don't you?...
Any questions ask away....I know diddly squat but there are some clever, and helpful, folk around here who I'm sure will be glad to help.

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
Hi Catalyst,
many thanks for the welcome.
To be honest I wasn't looking for a Westone at all (don't think I'd heard of them) but I think I have been extremely fortunate in coming across this Prestige 250.
I do have a problem with GAS (both types!) and I was just looking to see what was around. I had recently read up on Japanese guitars from the early eighties such as Greco and Tokai. When I saw the Westone advertised locally I did some homework and found that these were rather well thought of... And here I am now, a very, very happy new owner.
I suppose it's true to say that I'm a born again guitarist after a long hiatus (of maybe 25 years). I've bought a few in the last 18 months, getting on with some but not others. My wife made me get rid of a couple as I wanted to buy a PRS as an early 50th present... Not that I had ever spent anything like as much on a guitar before... The PRS is very nice indeed, but nothing like as good value as the Prestige 250.
She wasn't best pleased when I bought this Westone as she thinks I have a serious problem (What's wrong with the guitars you have already???!!!). Maybe I do. I doubt I'm alone
I'm so pleased with this Prestige that I don't think I do need to look at any more guitars, but I think you are right in that it won't be my last one (and, yes, I've already been looking). Definately one to keep forever though! The first owner had it for 30 years, I'll see if I can beat that, depending on my lifespan
Cheers!
PS. Sorry about the not working up in the normal manner from Thunder to Prestige.
I thought I'd start with the Prestige and then look for a Pantera X350 next (only kidding)!

You done very good, glad to see you're the one wearing the trousers in your house.
Wish I could claim the same here but I have a X390 under my desk, Pantera and Thunder basses in the loft and a Speccy GT at the back of my wardrobe (and a red 1A currently in transit).
It's not that I daren't say owt, but she insists on having the cash equivalent for every guitar I buy so they all would cost me double if I told her about them.
The problem I have now is how the hell do I introduce a Pantera X390 into the house and get away with claiming I've always had it? it's not exactly subtle...
It's a nice problem to have though eh?

Re: Prestige 250 - Newport UK
I often get the same reply: well I'm off shopping to spend the same on shoes/clothes/frivolous stuff etc.
She just doesn't get it.
My guitars are INVESTMENTS
Her purchases will end up in the bin or the charity shop whilst mine will be worth more than I paid for them. Simple economics. Well I'm convinced of that anyway...
I used to have a few empty cases around the place that weren't SO empty, if you get my drift.
I just showed her the Prestige 250 and the beautiful top. "It's a guitar" she said. Bah!

Bizarrely, my missus seemed positively upset when I sold a seriesII spectrum in Sky Blue(turquoise) to GASman, it was her "fave" !
she does'nt play, and nor does she care anymore what I buy, hell....she even bought me a ConcordII.
jealous?

Well, I see. The seller just ignored to come back to both me and grogg so I cannot agree on the expression that he is a gentleman.

Thanks! I will keep on searching! But it feels good it came to you friend!

It seems that this nice instrument has landed on a place where it is welcome to stay for a long time and be appreciated!
