WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
WANTED: I'm hoping to find a copy of the 1981 Westone catalogue featured on this site (Link: www.goo.gl/5BhJSK).
Fair / good quality is fine, excellent quality not essential but of course preferred. No missing pages, no massive tears; worn / rabbit-eared edges fine with me. It's all character building stuff, right?
Failing that, I'm hoping to track down someone who has a copy and can provide a high resolution (print quality) scan of one of the page featuring the Rainbow I. (Link: www.goo.gl/vL4BsQ)
If someone is able to source an actual catalogue for me, I'll gladly pay postage (PayPal okay) and am happy to discuss what someone would want for the catalogue. I'm looking to frame one of the pages.
Thanks kindly!

Can't get the links to work Ash. They default to Google search page.

..yep, I said it's this site:) SOOO Barry, the big question, where and how did you get the scan mate?
Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
Sorry Ash, the "this site" was ambiguous to me.AshNathens wrote:..yep, I said it's this site:) SOOO Barry, the big question, where and how did you get the scan mate?
This site (the Forum we're on) is not the same as this site (your referenced web site). They're two different beasts.
There's a very long back story to the content on the web site which I won't get into here. Suffice it to say that "what you see is wot we got" I have no originals.

Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
Hello Wgrichardson, and welcome.
A 6mm dia bar should fit OK. They're readily available online from places like GuitarFetish, StewMac, etc. (they may be listed as "import" size)
For future reference, please start your own post in the Technical or Wanted forums rather than jumping onto a non-related topic like this one.

Hey Barry - I've exhausted all other leads I can find; any chance I can track your source for the catalog shot, or do you have zero contact with them these days?Barry wrote:Sorry Ash, the "this site" was ambiguous to me.AshNathens wrote:..yep, I said it's this site:) SOOO Barry, the big question, where and how did you get the scan mate?

Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
Yep.... that source is closed to us forever, i would think. All ties were cut and we were fortunate indeed that at the eleventh hour, he chose to share his information with us; everything, or nearly everything you can see on that site is his personal quest for data on all things Westone.
eBay often has dealers slicks and the like on offer; the only thing I can suggest is that you keep a very close eye on those type of sites....

As I look, and I knew my catalogue was different in some respects, what I realise is... a slightly different catalogue but... also... A TOTALLY DIFFERENT GUITAR! And I Never really noticed that... Weird!
Totally different grain and different stain! Do you still need a copy of my 1981 catalogue now Ash?

@JIM "Totally different grain and different stain! Do you still need a copy of my 1981 catalogue now Ash?"
You funny bugger;) Well then, isn't THAT interesting? So they may have (PURE conjecture here) produced one, run out of copies and had to reproduce another having sent out the... wait, no. Why wouldn't they just re-use the photographs?
Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? Anyway - no, if your catalogue isn't the one pictured above, I don't need it. Thanks though!

Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
Hmm, not only a change in the finish, but also the pickups.

Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
...agreed - something VERY odd going on here. If that's an '81 catalogue then it's a Rainbow v1, which it would seem to be from the shape of the f-holes. So what's with the pick-ups? Have they photographed a customised instrument?Barry wrote:Hmm, not only a change in the finish, but also the pickups.
This guitar gets more strange and wonderful every day.
Re: WANTED · 1981 Westone Catalogue
Mats was infamous for, "Specifications subject to change without notice"
Just another example I suppose.

Not at all! Check out the one photographed here.AshNathens wrote:So what's with the pick-ups? Have they photographed a customised instrument?Barry wrote:Hmm, not only a change in the finish, but also the pickups.
As the above scan states on top right: 'spefications to change without notice', it must have been available for a short while with closed Twin A61 pick-up's as is clearly indicated in the specification section.
Where A= for alnico magnet's I presume, MMK-61 instead of Twin A75 (MMK-75 alnico) pick-up's as are described in the other catalogue.
My catalogue misses a printing date mark but the time frame in which these 'Large F-hole / straight tailpiece' were produced must have been limited to '81-'82.
A different Rainbow I again is featured in the German 1982 catalogue available with closed A750 pickup's it says. (MMK-75). From 1983 overall designs and hardware like the tailpiece changed but MMK pickup's were still employed.
Also, in other catalogues from a later date the very same humbucker pick-up's are called different names like "Super Twin" The marking MMK-## are stamped on the back of each pick-up. Often these pickup's wear other names in other Matsumoku brand catalogues (Vantage, Aria Pro II etc.) but bear the same stamped markings and characteristics. Some research has shown MMK-61 & MMK-750 usually read 8.4k. Might be alnico II or 5 magnet's.
To make things more confusing the X350MA guitar according to the1986 cat. has 'Magnaflux OFC pickups'. Members reported on the back of these they carry an MMK-75 stamp. Covers at least look totally different Link (OFC means oxygen free copper).
