Hi,

Could someone tell me something about this guitar?

This is true?

Could well be..'subject to change without notice'... a one off custom colour.

You'd have to strip it down to have a look.

Scratches on the body shows that the bottom has no other paint.

It's possible that this guitar was manufactured in Japan in '86?

In Poland there are few of these guitars. The sale is only this one guitar at the moment.
I can't decide on the purchase.

I have a Spectrum guitar I've dated to early 1988 (probably Korean, at least in assembly) that is the exact same color. They called it Sky Blue iirc, but mine has yellowed to a nice seafoam green. Excellent guitar!

If the price is right, snag that bass. I also have a Korean Spectrum I bass (1989, single pup, smooth heel) that I picked up for a song (pun intended!). It plays beautifully, sounds great, and is in very good++ condition.

If it were Japanese, it would either have a heel plate stamped "Westone, A Matsumoku Product, Made in Japan with the serial # or a heel plate stamped the same way minus the serial #. If this is the case, the serial # will be stamped in the back of the headstock.
Looks like yours doesn't have the smooth heel, which if it has a heel plate with no markings, would make it a 1988 Korean, as Westbone said. With the active electronics out, I would offer less (like $250 USD tops with a case), using the repair as a bargaining chip. But then again, I'm in the USA, and I'm sure the markets are very different.
I'm finding they used different colors in the late 1987 to 1989 transition time from Japan to Korea.

I own way too many damn Westones (7 at last count) and too damn many Matsumoku made basses (somewhere around 20 at last count). Thank God my wife is, for the most part, understanding.

I didn't think much of the colour in the sellers pictures, until it arrived, now it's my wifes favourite guitar and I've come to love the colour

OK, to sum up:

It pays to buy this bass spectrum II with yellowed sky blue colour :)Damaged active electronic (but i'm electronics technician) and some scratches in the body? 406$ ?

For comparison, in Poland the cheapest, new copies of famous brands (Jackson, Cort, Epiphone, LTD etc.) cost about 500 USD.  It's known that these are bad guitars.

Have you played it much Papa? For me, that tells everything. If it speaks to me when I play it, I usually buy it.

Sounds like for your market, it may not be a bad deal, especially if you can fix the actives. Good luck!

Not a big deal. It's just that our version contains not only the archive material but the latest available info from people like Westone's principal designer Tom Presley, plus valuable contributions from the forum members here.

Been on Allegro for quite some time. (By the way, that Thunder II with the Maxon pick ups is back up there too.)

I can't seem to retrieve the post from member Bowenjaybee on his awesome restoration project but must be SPB311 and Barry updated the info with pics of his red one. The dot markers make it stand out. 22 frets might date it before '88 as the info says!
http://www.westoneguitars.net/basses/spectrum/

The color variety is not mentioned but that happened before with other models.
