Mini Humbuckers
Anyone got a set of mini humbuckers as fitted to 70's Les Paul Deluxe? Even the odd one lying around?

Re: Mini Humbuckers
i bought one of these mini-buckers for a Sekova Les Paul gold top i have to repair. it matched up with the other one already installed and fit the trim rings perfectly. i need to fabricate a part for under the pickup for mounting to the guitar.
...because this one was too much $$$ (i did get a new pair of trim rings for the mini-buckers from this ebay seller).

Re: Mini Humbuckers
I don't have anything like that lying around mate, but I have bought 5 different sets of pups from Warman Guitars and have been very pleased with ALL of them, they sell 2 different mini HB's ....poleless and regular, though I have not yet tried these.
HERE
AND HERE
Could be worth a punt if you can't get an original set.

Re: Mini Humbuckers
Thanks guys for the responses.
I don't want to spend too much. I looked on Ebay for some Warmans and they had none listed, but I have used the Sarge's link and ordered a set directly from the Warman site.
A few weeks ago, I said that I wasn't buying anything else. I have been good and only bought two guitars since then!!!
I doubt if the addiction can ever be fully cured.

Re: Mini Humbuckers
Warman did not respond to my order request. I don't think that they have them so I ordered a set of Artecs instead.
The Artecs around 8.5k Ohms whereas the Warmans were just over 6k Ohms.
6k Ohms is probably a little too weedy for a humbucker so I am glad that I have gone for Artecs.

Re: Mini Humbuckers
I thought power output was measured in inductance (H, Henries) not in Dc resistance (K, Kilo Ohms).
As far as I can make out, a resistance measurement has little or no bearing on power output, but rather how much bass/treble we get?
more windings = higher resistance = more "warmth"
or have I got this all wrong?
........Mike?

Re: Mini Humbuckers
I believe that you are correct and I am no Physicist. I believe however that the Henry figure relates to the interaction between the power of the magnet together with the resistance of the coil.
Normally when you see pickups for sale you see the resistance figure quoted.
I know Gibson PAF's are around the 8.5k Ohm mark, so I am happier to take a chance on Artecs at 8.5k Ohms rather than Warmans at 6.25k Ohms.
I may have ended up with the dreaded Hex pole UBC style pickup.
Having said that, I like the low output UBC's but not on this guitar.
Where is old brainbox Grogg when you need him??

Re: Mini Humbuckers
Your wish is my command Hoax.
The inductance is largely related to the number of windings in the pup coil and the strength of the magnet. This with how well coupled they are determine how much voltage output you will get from the pup when a string is vibrating above its poles.
The more windings you have in a given space then the thinner and longer the coil wire has to be to get it all in. The resistance is proportional to length and inversely proportional to wire diameter squared so resistance increases for both thinner and longer wire. So the easy way of estimating if a pup has lots of windings is to measure its dc resistance.
In relation to tone the inductance and resistance of the pup have an impact on the passive filtering within a guitar. Effectively the inductor and resistor are in series, the inductor's impedance increases with frequency and acts as a filter so in general the more windings the lower the frequency at which this will become noticeable so Sarge was kind of right.
Therefore all in all higher resistance pups will have higher output (if they have equivalent magnets and construction) and less treble.

Re: Mini Humbuckers
Sarge
As Grogg was saying, all the electrons go round the coil in a circle and the magnet tries to pull them into an almost teardrop shape. You can overcome it all by reducing your magnet pull or increasing the diameter of your wire. You see, you get nice round electrons and very bad tear shaped ones.
This is the last time I explain something as simple to someone so stupid!! I know that you are Northern, but you are beginning to take the piss!!
Fckd if I know what Grogg was on about (He'll be back on to Faradays in a minute) although I can tell from his paragraph spacing that he basically said hello, cut and paste something from somewhere, and then said goodbye. It is little wonder that you Sarge, and I remain as stupid as Stupid Jack McStupid.

Drink up folks, they're here until St. Swithins Day.
Try the currents.

What happened to Henries anyway?
