Spare bass neck? Empty Spare bass neck?

Post by PaulS Wed Feb 13, 2013 1:51 pm

Good evening all.
Long time no post, but I check in most days.
I like the idea of having a fretless bass and I reckon a Westone one would be a good place to start. My problem is that I find the regular Westone Thunder basses, and so therefore the fretless versions, too heavy. But I have a cunning plan. Shocked
I have a Thunder Jet bass, which is lightweight and exceedingly nice (fitted with a P-retro preamp). So I was thinking maybe I could do an 'ad hoc' neck swap with a neck from another Westone bass along the lines of the Spectrum LX bass idea - one fretless neck, one fretted neck, one body. I don't suppose it would matter if it were a Thunder or Spectrum neck, nor would it matter if it were fretted or fretless and I think I could managed a defret ok. Just prefer it to be black, really - scruffy is ok.
So, finally getting to the point Smile, does anyone have a Westone bass neck kicking around gathering dust that I could purchase for a reasonable sum?
Ta!

Just had a read through the spec and I think I will need a Spectrum bass neck. The Thunder Jet has 22 frets - the only one of the Thunder range that has 22. Most of the Spectrum seem to have 22 frets.
I would imagine most/any Matsumoku 22 fret necks are likely to have the same dimensions - anyone know?

Or maybe an entire Spectrum bass that is a really scruffy 'doer-upper' - might be easier to track down than a neck? Perhaps someone has one lurking that they have yet to get around to sorting out...

Apparently there is a Spectrum Series II neck for sale in France. Think it is
this one. No tuners and worn nut?. Been there for a month and doesn't seem to sell.

And please cancel. I decided to go fretless on a Fender - much easier!

Strange my last post vanished. and all because I used the F word affraid.
Yes, I saw that one. But unlress he parted it out, I'd be paying over the odds for a whole lot of bass I didn't want.
Compare and contrast - this morning I bought a Vintage Modified Squier neck for £30. Just too easy to give into the dark side...

Correct, with a floyd rose complete with stock brass sustain block. Never had a guitar with such low action without buzz. Shame it's getting flipped Very Happy

Ah - yes. Or, rather, no. I am leaving the Thunder Jet alone and will be sticking the fretless Squier neck on a Precision bass (recently bought a Silver Series for not very much - still smiling). The Squier neck only has 20 frets so the hybrid would be a non-starter without some bridge re-positioning etc, which seems a shame.
I don't think I ever saw a Stagemaster in the flesh. Out of curiosity, have you sold it yet? One of the guitarists in my band might be interested.
