Alvarez solid-body electric question / ID help? (no photos)
Does anyone know of an online resource for identifying Alvarez solid-body electric models? I've come across a very cheap (possible) Dana II, and although I certainly don't have the funds for it, I am enjoying the temptation. Mind you, I saw it only for a moment and did not get to inspect it closely (or even plug it in), but here are some details from memory. If anyone can offer any insight, it would be appreciated.
The model is a dark, natural wood with two black metal knobs, one switch in-between, and three black, matte pickups (no pole pockets - they looked like EMGs): one humbucker and two single coils (all have "Alvarez" written on them, altho it is almost entirely rubbed off). Equally interesting is the instrument has a metallic line drawing of a dragon on the body that I'm not sure is original... it seemed to be in metallic ink and I am unsure if it is under a clear coat or a custom job (My memory of it was the drawing was a bit cheesy) It had a brass nut and brass horizontal bar between the nut and tuning pegs (sorry, I forget what that is called)."Alvarez" on the headstock (only) and on the back was a serial number and Made in Korea.
This was definitely not the "Scoop" model. It looked similar in shape to the Dana II's that I have seen on Ebay, but I do not remember if it was as pointy on the corners. I will go back to the shop in the next day or so to give it a play and maybe take some photos (I do not want to seem TOO interested, so that may not happen). The instrument has been in the shop for many months and although I picked it up a long time ago, I never gave it the attention it deserved. (Worth mentioning is my wife is the rare kind: "Oh, you saw something you like? You should go back and get it.")

It could be a Dana, yes. Or the Dana body style anyhow. Go back and get a photo of it. They made a bunch of different guitars with that body. Not all of them good, either! Post a photo and what they want for it.

OK... so I finally got the photos. Maybe my post header should change? I dunno... somebody let me know if this should come home with me
I think the drawing on the front of the body is in metallic paint, as I scratched off a tiny (tiny!) little bit. How to get the rest of it off without damaging the finish is the question.... (Looking for answers

Wondering what model this is. Anybody know?

Looks like part of the AE50 line. Iv'e never played one, but I hear they are decent guitars. Used they go for around $250. Defintately not a Dana as you had hoped, but more like the mid to entry level Alvarez. Usually a few on ebay at any given time. Looks like someone did some custom artwork on the body. If that sticker says $129 then I think it would be worth a shot and you may be able to get your $ back if you don;t like it. I don't think it has any collector value to it - there are quite a few of them around.

Thanks, Sar - The guitar has been in a dicey-neighborhood pawn shop since June of this year. I am considering offering them $60 on New Year's Eve and see if I can walk away with it. The neck pickup is not working and it is in obvious need of a serious cleaning, which is certainly to my negotiating advantage. It plays very well (with the exception of the pickup situation), so it may join my herd, despite my bank acct. Thanks again for the insight.

Sarc is right. They're on Ebay from time to time. Would make a great player that you could mod if you wanted to.
Those necks are pretty nice I'd imagine. Probably has nice frets. If you can get it for $60, do it. Anything more than that however, I'd probably hold out and put your money towards something better that will come along. Which may just be a good idea overall actually.
