New Purchase Day!
So, I bought this off of the 'Bay, didn't cost very much and I was intrigued as it looked unusual.
It's an Aria Pro II TSB-400 but with a headstock shape that I haven't seen on any other Aria Pro.
Made in 1980 so p'raps some kind of prototype.
The bridge pick isn't working, anone know how I can test this with the multimeter? The pickup is a sealed unit...
Here's the pics!
The neck was painted badly at some point so I've already stripped that and will relaquer it once I've located a decal.

Re: New Purchase Day!
Body might be Aria Pro, but I reckon that the neck is from something else - Sorry but its just my opinion!

Re: New Purchase Day!
The neck, under that paint, has the skunk stripes so it's deffo original.
The truss rod cover is painted in the pic but I've removed the paint and it says TSB-400 on it.

Tuners are correct for 4-in-line Aria Pro's too.

checking the pickups is easy. this is the rig i use to check pickups while still installed in the guitar. just plug into the jack and attach the alligator clips to the probes.
otherwise you can open the back covers and check at the output jack, or the volume pot, selector switch or where ever the pickup wires are terminated.
be sure volume pot and tone pot are turned full up, and pickup selector switch is in desired position.
one probe on the common (ground) and one probe checking the points of interest.

Re: New Purchase Day!
Ah thanks that looks pretty cool!
I like to test at the pickup and then at the switches etc so I can see whether it's the pickup that's faulty or a solder point, switch etc.

Re: New Purchase Day!
That's the clever way to do it.
Or if you're just plain lazy, try just doing THIS

Re: New Purchase Day!
Maybe a previous owner didn't like the look of the headstock and took to it with implements of destruction?!

Re: New Purchase Day!
Saw that on ebay and was getting very tempted. Nice score.
There was another one at the same time with a similar headstock shape.
Maybe if they take a whack on the headstock and a bit snaps off, who knows??
Anyway I found these pictures with a black painted neck.

Re: New Purchase Day!
Thanks Grogg, I'll take you up on that if you don't mind. I've been reading your Thunder 1A thread so I'll pick your brains on finishes too!
Thanks for that Westbone, I overlaid your pic on mine and I think that yes it's taken a knock and someone's re-shaped it to cover up.
The black paint is definitely not original though - they even painted the truss rod cover!
