The Great American Guitar Show

Saw this ad in the news yesterday and it was only about 20 miles away at the Philadelphia Expo Center, so I packed up the FX and the Bride and took a ride. The show is produced by a bee3vintage.com. The place was packed when we got there. Twelve bucks apiece to get in (a little high if you ask me, but I'm cheap anyway) Left the Fx in the truck cause I didn't want to carry it all around. I would run out and get it if I needed it. To my shock there wasn't a single Westone in the building!!! It was all Gibson, Fender, Martin, Guild, anyway you get my drift. I asked a couple of dealers if they'd be intrested in giving me a price for the FX and they looked at me like it was some cheap piece of meat!!! One guy offered me $75 bucks unseen. I was really bummed, I mean this is a vintage guitar in very good condition!!! Anyway one guitar did catch my eye was a Gibson Flying V owned by S R Vaughn but as I said I'm cheap!!! Well that's the last time I'll go to The Great American Guitar Show.

Well, to be fair, it was advertised as the great American guitar show, eh?

Gibson, Fender, et al devotees can be awfully narrow focused, even snobbish. We have a hell of a time at the shop trying to get a Gibson guy to try a Taylor, or a Fender fan to try a Music Man, etc. Even when they are clearly impressed by them they still fight it.

I don't know I saw Ibanez and Rickenbacker guitars and some custom hand made guitars. They weren't just american guitars here. I mean there were some really vintage guitars... 50's and 60's with prices from 10 grand to well over 100 grand. Most were pretty reasonable you know a thousand on up. There were even some dealers from Tokyo who had no intrest!!! Oh well it's their loss.

Um, Ricky's are also American made.
And I-Bin-Had's seldom qualify as "great" anything.

I thought Rick's were British...now I know.
