hallo, ok this is in a pawn shop near me, going for £120 down from £190!, it is in superb condition, hardly a blemish.......my query is: Is £120 a good price for this Korean westie?......I understand its value is subjective and only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.....would YOU pay £120?

http://www.westone.info/challenger.html

I only had 20 seconds before the shop closed so didnt get a chance to play it, looks very heavy with a beautiful dark metallic blue finish.....Do I gamble and make this my 2nd westie?

you should help him open up shop in the morning!!! Laughing

i have a couple of the korean westies. the ferrite pickups sound great!

nice clear tone, rich in harmonics, lush midrange and not too fat on the bottom end,
and very quiet too, even in single coil mode.

If you buy it and don't like it, I'll give you what you payed for it.

Sight unseen.

That's how much I like my challenger.

But you should know: it has an 80s Hair Band humbucker (ceramic rather than alnico magnet), so if you don't like the tone, that's why. I love the tone, myself.

My canary yellow challenger is my favorite guitar of any I've ever owned (at 120 and counting) or currently own (38). That includes a Parker nitefly, a vandenberg custom neckthru, and a handful of hacker USA models, not to mention a mij dynasty.

Take that for what it is worth.

I,ve seen that very guitar in the "Toon" before Xmas and it's a bit of a looker. Cool

It's been very well looked after, I couldn't see any chips or dents on it at all, but I think it has seen some gigging action. The top edge of the single coils are rounded off from pick wear.

The only thing I could see that might need a closer look is the underside of the neck at the first fret. There is a dark stain in the maple which is probably just sweat or excess oil from the fretboard.

Worst case would be a stress crack but judging from the condition of the guitar, I highly doubt it's been dropped in any way. It would be worth a closer look if your thinking of getting it.

Yeah, I saw that! Sad

It was a shame because the rest of the guitar was in decent condition, it even had the brass knobs if I remember correctly.

You do get a good laugh at the opimistic pricing in that shop. Until just recently they had a s/hand Burns Marquee that had sat there for about a year, they wanted £430 for it when they were only around £300 new! McKay's on Westgate Rd had the Marquee Special (bound body, flamed front, gold hardware) in for about £370. Laughing

Ok so I managed to get into town todasy to have a closer look at this, the underside of the (extremely thin!) neck at the first fret looks like a repair job maybe, 2 gouges in the rosewood on 1st fret, 6 or 7 lighter marks behind and around that dark stain makes me think it was held in a vice without protection, possibly the fretboard had come away at some point.
too many scuffs and scratches for that money imo, and the braindead assistant wouldnt fetch the manager for me to haggle, all in all too much of a gamble......for me.
