Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
Looking for a wiring diagram or picture of wiring for a Spectrum MX. I'm trying to rewire a tone pot that was damaged & came to me in pieces after the customer had tried to fix it himself. Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
Welcome to you fellow Minnesotan!
Unless I am missing my guess the wiring should be identical to my Genesis. A link to our archive site for that is here...
http://www.westoneguitars.net/fixme/wiring-diagrams/genesis-ii/
If the humbucker in your MX has 4 wires then a push/pull to tap the coil should be found on the tone knob as well. I am going to pop over to the Electra forum to see if a suitable Phoenix diagram exists I can link for you.
Whereabouts in the Gopher State do you hail from?

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
Well MMM ( ) I checked with a couple of our more experienced members and the upshot is.... we are not entirely certain.
If that MX of yours does have a "splittable" humbucker and a 5 way switch then the link to that Genesis II diagram SHOULD work. If you do not mind acting as a test bed for our theory on this please give it a try and let us know if it works out.
Check out this thread for pics of basically the same wiring plan we are discussing. Closeups of the 5 way and coiltap are middle towards the end of the thread...

You seem to have found abit of a chink in the armor of the fixit side of our archive site and we hope you can help us in mending it.
We look forward to your results...

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
the description of the MX setup seems to be nearly the same as the Spectrum SX with the difference being that the SX has an additional p/p for phase reverse (for the middle pickup) and a separate tone controls (for neck and middle pickup).
the wiring diagram i could find closest to describing the setup on the Spectrum SX was labeled for the Spectrum III
http://www.westoneguitars.net/fixme/wiring-diagrams/spectrum-iii/
the Spectrum III has an H-S-H setup but for both the Spectrum MX and the Spectrum SX you have the neck pickup as a single coil and so you can omit the wiring for coil splitting (the neck pickup) to the p/p (on the volume pot for the SX, or on the tone pot for the MX).
the Spectrum III also shows that the 'tone-2' p/p is for phase reverse on the middle pickup. for the Spectrum SX the p/p for phase reverse is also for the middle pickup, but located on 'tone-1'. there is no phase reverse on the MX.
the 5-way switch for the Spectrum SX is wired the same as the diagram for the Spectrum III.
to adapt this diagram for the MX model:
1.) omit the wiring to the 'tone-2' pot
2.) omit the phase reverse wiring to the p/p switch on 'tone-2' and connect the middle pickup to the same place the wiring after the switch was connected (one to ground, one to #7 on the 5-way switch, [yellow wire in the pic]).
> the Spectrum MX has one volume and one tone control, on the tone control is a p/p, to split the bridge pickup. the volume is a standard pot. the wiring for tone control could be different than the diagram.
>on the Spectrum SX the volume pot p/p is for coil split and tone-1 p/p is for phase reverse, tone-2 is a standard pot.
the pics are from my Spectrum SX
wiring cavity: blue and white pair is for middle pickup- goes to phase reverse p/p.
red and white pair is for the neck pickup.
shielded cable for the humbucker, red wire to p/p for coil split, white to 5-way switch, shield to ground.
5-way switch wiring: top of switch - red is neck, yellow is middle, white is bridge, blue with jumper is output; bottom of switch - orange is tone-2(middle), blue is tone-1(neck)

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
Hey thanks Iceman for identifying the gap and working on this. And a big thanks to gittarasaurus for taking the time to document all the the info and pix!
If and when I ever figure it all out I'll make adjustments to the info site.
Cheers!

Nothing to it, Barry.... YOU are the man.
John had the audacity to have already boxed up his MX (the nerve of some people) or he would have cheerfully opened it up to see what's what.
No worries though, they always crack in the end...

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
Just take the red wire from the pickup and wire up to the pull/push switch on/earth, cuts out a coil.
Thanks, but need more specific info on Spectrum MX
Hi Guys! Thanks so much for all the great info, diagrams, etc. Specifically what I'm trying to do is replace the tone push/pull pot. Everything else is done except that & none of the diagrams show me how this should be wired. I'm pulling out what's left of my hair over this guitar! I guess I need a diagram of this exact guitar (or somebody smarter than me that can explain exactly what I need to do).
To Iceman - I'm currently located in Litchfield (about 90 miles straight west of Mpls/St Paul). I was born & raised in Arlington, MN. Then lived in Mankato for many, many years while going to college & touring the surrounding states thru GMA as lead singer with a southern rock band. How about you?

a few wiring diagrams....
because the Spectrum SX has two tone controls and a 5-way switch (and so it has tone controls similar to a strat), i am going to guess that the tone control for the MX is a master tone control because it has one tone control...
maybe these will help out.....
for your purposes you can just use this one even though you have a humbucker bridge....
http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUSSS5L1101/WDU-SSS5L11-01.html?fl=~ge_p_diagram_print&wrapper=plain
and then for the humbucker coil split you can use this one, you will have six terminals on the push/pull switch. you only need two as shown.
a common westone pickup will have a brown outer cover with 3 wires, a shield to ground, red to coil split on p/p, and white to 5-way switch.

Re: Westone Spectrum MX Wiring Diagram
@MMM
I know of all those towns, but Mankato especially as I have a few cousins who still live there. My younger brother is a police officer in Nicollet County so watch yourself driving on 169 or 22 for that matter.
I am abit north of the metro out in the sticks up Kanabec County way. Closest I ever get to you would be when I am investigating instruments for sale. I was over in Hutch around 3-4 months back and picked up a Pantera x275 there.
Glad you joined up. Maybe we can bend an arm or have coffee sometime.
