Spectrum 3 for sale
Selling my Spectrum 3 which is pretty much original, and in pretty good nick for a old guitar
Trem arm is new, it has one cover missing off the back of a machine head, a few scratches, but very few dings. Oh and one of the control knobs is non-standard
Serial number dates it as a 1984
I want £110 for it plus postage of £25 within the UK. Overseas postage will be quite a bit more though

Anyone?
Nice guitar this, and not so common by all accounts

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
Shame you're not getting any action Sollo. It is a great lil' guitar (hey, it's a Spectrum!) but not one of the most appealing colours ever to come out of the Mats plant.

Mate... I'm sorry I can't quite justify it, but I'd like to, if you know what I mean!! I think that's a stunner and normally I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a Smartie, but with shifting hemispheres imminent, I'm quite limited in what I can get past the boss... Gotta say, that's pretty good price.....

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
Take my word for it when I say I am tempted. Luckily (but not really) shipping costs are again keeping me down.
Hope someone rides in to save the day soon, Sollo.

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
Ive relisted this one again.
Didnt sell at first, so I kept it back and played it for a while.
Then a nice Gibson LP Melody Maker came into my possession so this one has to go (again)
Lowered the price too.

I bought it!
Hi Sollophonic. Odd. I bought this off you on Ebay, came here to register with the forums and saw your post. Thanks for sorting me out with my second Westone!
I'm about to spend a load of money buying new pickups for it. Is that sacrilege? My other one is a Thunder 1-a, but its had all the circuitry taken out and old Seymour Duncans from a Les Paul shoved in by the previous owner, so I'm used to my Westones being a bit customized. Your one is getting a Bare Knuckle Painkiller/ Slow Hand pickup combo installed for a new lease of life!
Anyway, hello forums! And massive thanks to Sollophonic for blasting out a very quick delivery (ordered on a Sunday and received on a Tuesday I believe.)
On to the next one- I'm going to join the queue for the next available Prestige...

Please don't tell me you plan to change the pickups out of a Prestige! It's hard enough to hear about it on a Spectrum!iamseymour wrote:On to the next one- I'm going to join the queue for the next available Prestige...

Oho! Don't worry. A Prestige would be very much off limits!

Whew. By all means then! Do to your new guitar what it takes for you to enjoy it! I might disagree with it, but I'm not you!iamseymour wrote:Oho! Don't worry. A Prestige would be very much off limits!

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
I was a bit peeved that my original thunder had different pickups- then I plugged it in and it sounded a lot 'sweeter' than my friends guitar, so I thought I'd stick with it. I like my butchered Thunder, as it sounds like nothing else, so it's like having your own little signature series. It's got bizarre wiring, and using the pickup switch it literally goes from sounding like a Gibson to sounding like a Fender when it's in the middle- (I'll have to upload a sample or something)I think there is some sort of coil change going on in that bunch of ancient wiring when the switch is in the middle. I love how the guitar was fiddled with decades ago and it has a little history of its own(and it's in BATTERED but perfectly playable condition which I love!)
Now this ol' Spectrum- I won't sell the pickups because I do value having an original guitar (or at least being able to return in to its former state). In the interim, I was attracted to it because I want a solid, well built testbed for some cool pickup combinations and other odd ideas. It will be back to original before I ever sell it, even if it's just to recover the cost of the pickups- about three times the price of the guitar!
Any thought on Bare Knuckle pickups? Anybody got a customized Westone?Getting a luthier to whack some hand-wound lovelies into this thing is only a good idea from where I'm sitting!
How often do Prestige's even appear? I have been dribbling over photos of them for years now

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
The MMK pickups are generally well regarded, particularly in an active guitar so being able to return it to OEM specs is a good thing!!
Not heard anything bad about Bareknuckle pups, and Prestiges turnup quite infrequently.... Those who've got 'em, keep 'em!

Re: Spectrum 3 for sale
Glad you like the guitar Ian.
I have to say, the thing I liked about this guitar was the humbuckers (and I am a single coil/P90 fan). What I didnt like about it was that with the single coil in the middle and the 5 way, you couldnt get the two MMK45 together, which is why I am still on the lookout for a two hummer Westone, like a Thunder or a Spectrum 2.
Its your guitar, and you can do what you like, but if you dont want the MMKs Im sure you'll get something for them, (I'd have 'em myself but I dont have a nice enough two hummer axe to drop em into.
I have two Squier 51s that also have some highly regarded humbuckers. Squier didnt put them into any other guitars, and they are ace;- cross between a hummer and a P90.
Enjoy the guitar Ian, and glad it arrived quick and safe.
Still looking for other Westone/Matsumoku guitars to add to my Concord 1 (which I love)
