Adding a neckstrap button
Anyone ever add a strap button to a hollowbody electric? The Session II only has one on the bottom of the guitar. Think it is better to add on the the heel of the neck, or on the body itself (where it would normally be for a LP style)?

Yours doesn't have a strap button on the back where the neck meets the body? Or a hole where one was? There should be one there.

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
There isn't one there, and doesn;t appear to have ever had one. I've owen acoustics like that, but don;t want to get the strap that ties to the headstock like some do with acoustics.
Any other Session owners have one there?

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
Both of the Sessions shown on the westoneguitars.net page have strap buttons on the back; one on the neck heel and the other on the body right next to the neck.

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
My Session II button is right were you'd expect it to be
Do like your antique brown burst Session, gorgeous

I do love the burst - thanks.
So Westbone & Fish's are not in the same exact spot - which is better? Does it really matter? Just not sure which is better for strengh - right into the neck?
Here is a pic of mine - as you cand see there was never one there (unless an amazing repair was done)

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
This last one would sit better, I think. I had an Ibanez hollow body guitar that had the button on the back of the neck and it held the whole thing tilted forward slightly, making it difficult to see the neck when playing (I have to look, sadly)
Re: Adding a neckstrap button
grogg - do you think that is original...or added later? That is the spot I was thinking of putting mine.
I do hate the thought of predrilling a small hole in this guitar though - it is in such nice shape, but I don;t see me bring a chair everwhere I'll play it.

Screwing it into the neck as per groggs. The flange is not on a flat surface. It will eventually 'rock' itself loose.
They're such a fat bodied guitar that the fingerboard is away from you anyway when standing.
Depends on the size of your gut as well.. I know

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
the gut is getting smaller daily - it fits the 350MA perfect at the moment:)
Looks like I have a decision to make...hmmm

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
Gibson ES 175's come without a button. I've seen them placed in all 3 positions.
The choice is yours???

Dont know, the guy I bought it off was superb at restoring/finishing these guitars particularly the metals. Unfortunately he doesnt post on here anymore.
Mine hasnt but then again Ive only used it sitting down. I dont think its much more of a problem in this place than anywhere else, if worried put a rubbery washer underneath.westbone wrote:Screwing it into the neck as per groggs. Re: Adding a neckstrap button
Theoretically I think the top of the neck position is stronger since you going cross grain, but the geometry doesn't easily lend itself to stability. It is a bit odd looking although it should provide slightly better balance.
The more common spot for these types of guitars is on the heel but then you are going into the end grain so it not holding as tightly (again in theory). If this was solid body you'd have the issue of weight to factor in, but on these? Don't think it matters much where you place it.

Re: Adding a neckstrap button
Don't know if you've DRILLED your Session II as yet but I've noticed that most Rainbow I or II's and 335's are attached just below the neck/body join. The Session has binding, so just below, a couple or 3 mm, straight into the body/neck block, seems a solid place. There again who knows!
