Have a nice holiday John!
Since I'm here, I'd just like to mention that I have noticed things seem to have gone downhill in my absence!
I've been lurking around without being logged in and I've seen a lot of 'off topic' references as well as a large amount of drunken debauchery!
I've always been proud of the way you guys handled any untoward remarks/discussions in these forums in the past but it appears that in recent months things have started to slip and become rather rowdy.
Come on guys, please don't drag these forums down to gutter level as they do on other forums and Facebook, if you can avoid it. I don't want to sound like an old schoolmistress or anything, (I can eff and blind with the best of them) but these things do have a habit of escalating and before we know it, people won't be bothering to put in all the */@! etc., instead of the letters which make up these profanities! So please, if you don't mind, keep it clean and stick to the topics!

Re: Right, you shower....
Observations duly noted. I consider myself chastised and both wrists have been lightly slapped.
As I have stated in past posts I am not so much of a player as an admirer of these wonderful instruments. I suppose my desire to be involved around here has led me to post more often off-topic as I am obviously not much of a musician, per se.
That being stated I will endeavor to bring as much civility as possible to offset my rather off-putting sense of humor that at times can rear its head.
Sorry for not being more willing to share the sofa, Hoax..... did you want some of my popcorn?

More rowdy than before? Yes, quite. Less rowdy than most every other (especially larger) guitar forums? By far.

Re: Right, you shower....
Yeah I get where you're coming from Polly (from where you are coming ?)
Wandering a bit off topic is human nature and we're all guilty of doing it. I enjoy the gentle ribbing and good natured teasing, but mindless blathering does get tiresome. Particularly irksome when you get topic alerts, spend the time to log in, only to find an irrelevant post of little interest and mostly a waste of time.
But, the flip side is that we're comfortable enough with each other to share a lot of interesting and even intimate details about our lives and the the part of the world we live in (in which we live ). That denotes a measure of trust I think. Especially when events of highly emotional and personal events are brought up: pets, health, relationships, world happenings, etc.
Yes we're guitar players, and Westone lovers in particular, but we're people too, and I feel closer to many here having shared some of their trials and tribulations. And vice versa. Genuinely funny and genuinely honest should be welcomed here. But let's just leave the childish stuff and the nasty stuff at the door, eh?

Hey Barry,
There is nobody more guilty than me for going off topic!
Way back on the old forums, I had my hands slapped on a number of occasions from David for going off topic, much to my embarrassment!
Perhaps, in my 'lurkings' I haven't fully read the context of all the posts, (I do tend to 'proof read') so maybe I jumped the gun a bit. (I am intrigued to know what all this 'drinks on me' thing is about... I couldn't seem to find where it started so maybe send me a link eh?) It's just that it really riles me when I see full blown profanities on forums and such like (especially Facebook! GRRR!!!! ) and I would just hate to see ours go down the same road. In effect, my words were just a wee reminder to everybody that we've got a good bunch of guys in here and I wouldn't like to see newbies or fly by nights dropping in and thinking they can mouth off and use full blown bad language.
Incidentally, I loved Iceman's totally off topic thread in the non-Westone discussion forum! That is exactly what that forum is for, so keep those stories, grouches, moans, laments of lost loves (guitars or otherwise) coming! This forum has been my baby, (even though it may appear that I have cut the apron strings) so hopefully you can understand my concerns and forgive me for being a mother!

.... still here, alive and well in Lorient on the Breton coast; suffering the heat and sunshine of a french summer!!! Spent the day at the German WWII U-boat pens here and at a zoo about half an hour away; great day and off to Carnac tomorrow to look at paleolithic standing stones.
About what Polly has brought up; barry has said pretty much exactly what I fell about the crew in here, and besides, should any real argy-bargy start, then I'm quite capable of coming down on miscreants like the proverbial, eh; I just hope I don't ever have to and would prefer to solve problems in a quiet, friendly manner. I like where the "Non westone" thread has gone from time to time, and even when threads go off-topic, I do try to nudge 'em back on if I feel they're getting out of hand....
Right... off to have a calvados in the last rays of the setting sun...

Re: Right, you shower....
I personally have not witnessed any nasty stuff on here in a long time. About a year ago there was someone saying "You callin' me cheap?" in a De niro style. Since then there has been nothing.
Sure there is plenty of banter and I do my fair share, but banter is the life blood of camaraderie and Barry is right in that it shows levels of comfort, and trust in fellow members.
I think that we are extremely lucky here in that we have a great bunch of dedicated, intelligent. honest and friendly members. I have never witnessed foul or abusive language and that is a mark of the self inhibition and responsibility of the members.
If I go too far, I would fully expect to hear from Corsair
Anyway - I will be drinking tonight, so lay them up on the bar Ice!!

Re: Right, you shower....
Rural France, sounds nice!!! I'm thinking of the food, good French country cooking, I wonder what's it like? I'll have to ask John when he's back.
Now that's something that we Americans, Canadians, and Austrailians don't have the privilege of... reasonably inexpensive vacations to Europe! Must be nice.
I haven't seen anything get ugly on here yet. As it shouldn't. There's a little hairy stuff now and then I guess, I mean Barry's been cranky sometimes, but that's just the educator in him coming out. Let's see if he gets cranky over that...

Hey guys, I havent seen any spats or bad language of note in a long while. Sometimes the topic drifts a long way from where it started but its generally regular posters having a bit of banter and as far as Im concerned its part of the interest. Camraderie, building trust etc.. My only gripe is that I wish Iceman would put his clothes on.
Welcome back John, is the BIG move to Britanny?? I thought the next caravan stop was Oz.

Yeah; he does, eh!!
@grogg - it is now; we missed on a position that we were having a crack and will now head back to Aussie for about 5 years to get the kids through high school, and then will move back to France on a permanent basis; yes , very probably Brittany.

Brittany rocked our world, mate; we'll spend some years in Oz getting the kids through school and as soon as they're done, Brittany here we come! Oddly, we liked because there were fewer Poms there than anywhere else in France!!!

Mate; we were dead keen on Canada until we experienced the first northern hemisphere winter for many years - Lucy and I both lived in Pomgolia when we were a lot younger - here last year... far too cold!! We are trying to work in a visit to the eastern seaboard of the US - NY/Virginia - on our way back to Oz, though...

Re: Right, you shower....
Can't blame you for wanting to avoid the Canadian winters matey.
Last year was particularly brutal, even here in Southern Ontario where it is usually a bit more moderate because of the Great Lakes effect. That said, as I write this we're on the tail end of yet another hot spell coupled with high humidity; something that's been happening all summer. So it ain't all boots 'n parkas!
