Prestige 117 - how do you rate it ?
Hi, I'm new here so please be gentle !
Having wanted to puit my toe in the Westone waters for some time, I'm about to trade a guitar of mine for a Prestige 117. I'm doing this "blind" as the current owner lives some distance from me so we're both travelling to complete the exchange.
I would be very grateful for any views, good or otherwise, on the quality of this. I can find very little information on the web other than the catalogues and a fairly uninformative review at westone.info.
The build quality looks to be superb but...any niggles ? Are the Hammer I pickups decent ? (I love a santana type full rich lead neck sound and a lively heavily distorted bridge).
Interestingly this particular 117 has a 150 truss rod cover, which I find a bit strange but not necessarily suspect as the guitar seems from pics to be 100% authentic (and who'd bother to fake a 1984 guitar anyway ?).
I would be really appreciative of any input or comments, thanks.

Hi and welcome.
I'm sure some Prestige owners will drop by shortly but in the meantime, have you seen this information?

You're very welcome.
Prestige is one Westie model that I'd love to own. They are certainly considered in the top-of-the-line category.
Please be sure you post pix when you get her. I doubt very much that you'll be disappointed!

The phrase you tend to hear owners use is "Gibson killer", which while a touch gratuitous - and possibly ambitious! - , certainly shows how much they value them!! I'd like one, too, but I've yet to see one come up for anything less than a king's ransom, and anywhere remotely close to where I'm living!!

Get in line! I don't even see these around here, much less have the $$$ to get one if it did show up.corsair wrote:...I'd like one, too, but I've yet to see one come up for anything less than a king's ransom, and anywhere remotely close to where I'm living!!

Re: Prestige 117 - how do you rate it ?
Hi, well I traded the guitar for my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom (I also have a Patriot Supreme so it wasn't unduly painful) and am now the proud owner of a Prestige 117, curiously branded a Prestige 150 on the truss cover. It's very very good. The Hammer pickups don't disappoint ! The guitar has been very well looked after and is pretty much as new. The pics make it look as though the bridge is oxidised but in reality it's shiny and as new. Came in the proper Westone Prestige hardcase !

Great score mlpower! That thing is a beauty, and in great condition too.
I really[b] want to hear one of these on a clean setting.
How do you like the neck and tone???

Wha-a-a-t?? I like the MK Patriot line but they are no where near the same class as the Prestige! An amazing piece of trading on your part Michael!! Excellent!!mlpower123 wrote:Hi, well I traded the guitar for my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom...

Re: Prestige 117 - how do you rate it ?
Thanks guys. Yes, I'm a very happy camper. Neck is delightful - neither too thin nor too thick. I still have to play with the tonal possibilities having coil-tap and phase-reverse options on the tone controls. I've rarely been so happy with a new guitar in my collection (of 13). Spent last evening lovingly cleaning and restringing her. The only tiny blemish is a minute paint chip on the corner of the headstock.
Over here in Ireland such things rarely become so attainable. If I want to buy a new Michael Kelly tomorrow it's available to me but not a 1984 Westone ...

I like the way you think there, and we all agree! Spend the money on a new guitar like everyone else has, or dig a little deeper and get a nice Westie. The rarity and obscurity of these guitars are part of the charm, I think.
What part of Ireland are you from? I'm a Yank, but have had to honor of visiting Ireland quite a few times. Been everywhere but Northern Ireland, and lived in Athenry for a summer in Esker House retreat centre, it was the base for our travels.

Re: Prestige 117 - how do you rate it ?
Almost ran over a motorcycle Guarda in my hired Vauxhall when I was in Dublin a few years ago, good times! Next time I'm there I'm visiting Trinity, haven't made it there yet. We're feeling the economy clinch here in the States too, praying for solutions.
Congrats on the Prestige, if you feel brave enough, post a Youtube vid of it or something!

Oooh GAS attack! Very nice indeed! Mmm now there's a concept, buying Westones via Ebay from PIGS countries. The unemployment in Spain is 25% at the moment
OT: Just got myself a 1984 Washburn Force 2 for a song. Fat tight 2HB power strat which can sound like EvH. Another Mat guitar on the way. No Westone. When a new Westone arrives i'll keep you guys posted!
