Advice from across the pond please
Hi Guys,
I'll be flying into LAX in a month or two for a conference and wondered if anybody knew where the "geeetar" district was ? Or come to that, where the pawn shop are? Any good stores I should look out for?
Cheers

Re: Advice from across the pond please
What area of So Cali will you be in and how much time will you have to bum around?
Re: Advice from across the pond please
I'll be staying on Universal Hollywood Drive apparently, in an area called Universal City, about 12 miles from the conference centre, (Sorry center !!) for 6 days.
Oh and Norfolk..... I have just been informed that I'll have to attend another conference in Cannes soon. I like Brum, really I do, (well, only I live 15 mile away), but its not a patch on Cannes.
Cest la vie !!

There should be a pawn shop on every corner in LA filled with broken dreams. Reasonably priced broken dreams...er...guitars!

Re: Advice from across the pond please
Steve, are you asking for possible honey holes as you intend to do some serious hunting, or just looking for places of interest to spend the odd bits of free time you may find yourself with?
Re: Advice from across the pond please
Errr .... honey holes? wasn't Hugh Grant caught in one of those?
If I have any spare time before or during the Conf, I just thought I would take in a guitar vista or two. Really, just looking for whats what and if something takes my fancy .... well....
What I don't want to do is trawl around Costa Coffee, Clothes shops, or PS3 games shops for No.1 son.
I know that anything I bring back, I'm going to be caned by HR customs!!

Re: Advice from across the pond please
Musicians' Institute is in LA: http://www.mi.edu/ they've gotta have a list of all the hot-spots for their guitar 'GIT' students - might be worth an email?!?
Failing that you could always check-in with Lemmy down at the Rainbow

Re: Advice from across the pond please
I was thinking of a couple I visited last year in early June in the Santa Monica area but was not sure if you would be trying to range that far afield...
Re: Advice from across the pond please
This looks to be reletively close to where you'll be, and it's only $149. If they still have it, they did about a week ago anyway.
It's a little rough, I looked at it a couple months ago. If you want more pics, ask me 'cause I have them. It's in GoodFellas Pawn Shop, 1203 S. Glendora Ave. West Covina, CA 91790. With LA traffic though, it may take hours?! You can email them at info@goodfellaspawnshop.com.
