This is currently my bass. The top horn may look slightly longer as i used a wide-angle lens to try and get closer in. So annoyed about that scratch, but it's just in the laquer and may even polish out if someone knows what they're doing in that regard.

I was a big Westone fan when I started playing and my first 'real' bass was a Thunder 1A (Got my mum to buy it through her club book and I payed her back weekly with paper round money!). Also owned a Spectrum GT guitar at some point..
When I started to get better and play better gigs I needed to move up a notch or two and saved up £500, took it to the Bass Centre in London with the intention of finding the best thing they had for the money. The original warwick's were just coming out then and after trying one I wished I had saved up more and come back later...but then something else caught my eye, the Westone Super Headless. There were two to choose from; the 'walnut' one for sale today and one almost identical except in a 'honey' finish.

As mentioned in the ad, I did a fair amount of gigging with it initially, but got into recording more, then started a family, then got interested in other aspects of music, now playing all sorts of percussion and other guitars as well as my 1969 fretless Fender precision. So the Westone has been a bit dormant in its case, but comes out every so often for rare gigs that I still get asked to do now and then. The last time it was out was about a year and a half ago for another charity do, and miraculously it had stayed perfectly in tune!

Only just found this site as I was researching for the sale. How wonderful that there are still Westone appreciators still out there! - Anyone from here interested in it, i'll do my best to answer any questions you may have, and post some more pics if you like, and when I get time.

Welcome here, even if it is fro a brief time!! More pix would be nice; we may not necessarily buy it; I'm well out of GAS tokens atm!! - but we will enjoy looking at it!!

Haven't seen many with the Westone logo on the pickups...





I think the headstock clamping system has been changed a couple of times, as well...

That headstock clamping system looks a lot simpler than mine - less tidy but easier to do. I'll post a pic later for comparison.

Some close-ups of the scratch, as requested, just measured the scratch at 19mm...











This is the 'normal' view of the bass body, as you would generally see it, that is, without trying for ages to find the right light to pick out the scratch and then honing in on it! : o)






And i'd just like to point out that the buckle rash shot is around 4 times actual size!

Sorry to see it go, that's for sure. I play a lot of hand percussion nowadays, as well as bits of guitar and keyboards, and generally do a lot more with recording. When I play bass I have a '69 fretless precision and an Ashbory that i've converted to be played as a stand-up. I simply don't play the Westone any more so i'm converting it into studio gear. Be nice to just keep it as a souvenir of the past, but this is a guitar that needs and deserves to be played! Also, i'm not too precious about holding on to the past...said goodbye to half of my hair about 3 years ago!

The scratch looks to be only in the finish. Should buff out shouldn't it?

Lovely deep wood tones on that one. Bad timing for me as far as GAS tokens go as well.

Yes, I think the top horn scratch should come out relatively easily, but there is quite a heavy laquer on this bass and it would probably require someone who knows what they're doing with such things (not me!). A professional furniture polisher will see it off in no time! The belt rash on the back is a bit deeper but doesn't quite reach the wood, again because of the sheer weight of laquer, I think.

Iceman, is that a 70's wig or just an old photo, then?
