Westone Plectrums...? :) Empty Westone Plectrums...? :)

Post by DreamRaven Tue Oct 12, 2010 11:34 am

Can you tell that I am on a roll?

Can get black plectrums with either black (yes, I know black on black sounds bizarre, but...), silver or gold print (i am leaning towards silver or gold).

With P&P, I can supply 10, single sided print, for £3.50 (if you order stickers at the same time, remove 50p as I will combine p&p).

Question, for those interested, what weight? Hard (0.96) Medium Heavy (0.81) Medium Light (0.71)?

I have ordered plectrums from this supplier before, and I LOVE the Medium Light (very little flex, but some, great for Placebo/Blink 182/White Stripes distorted/overdriven rock.

Any interest?

Also, tell me if I am overdoing this 'Toner' custom logo stuff...

sounds very cool...i'd really like some of these (about 50 medium light)...is it possible to print a logo on the other side of the plectrums? do you know what that would cost?

thanks for doing all this... cheers

OK, Pleccies ordered...

Black Medium Light (0.71mm) with Gold Westone logo (similar to above). Should take a week or two.

Price as previously stated. £3 for 10, plus 50p post and packing. If you order multiples of 10, I will only charge for one P&P, that also includes any sticker orders, group them together and postage will be less.

As said in previous forums, I will not take any payments until I have received items, and if you want to order, either wait for the PayPal link, or PM me.

Interesting. I know they can be called picks but I cant say that I have ever heard them called that in the UK. Probably wrong, but amongst my muso acquaintances they tend to referred to as plec's.

plec·trum (plktrm)
n. pl. plec·trums or plec·tra (-tr)
A small thin piece of metal, plastic, bone, or similar material, used to pluck the strings of certain instruments, such as the guitar or lute.
[Latin plctrum, from Greek plktron, from plssein, plg-, to strike; see plk-2 in Indo-European roots.]

I'm hearing more and more of players who are getting their guitars "Plek'd". Probably not cheap enough for all guitars in the average members' collection here, but certainly worth it for top end instruments or single instrument players methinks.

Here you tend to hear the term "pick" more than "plectrum", although plectrum is not unknown.
And you know, if you pick it, it will never get well. clown

And the COLOUR of my guitar is pearl white, which really irritates the NEIGHBOURS when I ramp it up to eleven on the amplifier. They look forward to the time when I throw it all in the back of a LORRY and drive down the MOTORWAY to play a gig at a PUB.

OK... finally received confirmation of despatch from the Plectrum printers, they say 1-3 days for delivery. Hopefully, by Thursday they will be in my hand.

So, if you guys are waiting to order stickers, with plectrums, your wait is soon to be over.

Go find the links for the stickers and t-shirts elsewhere on the forums. They will be here, until they are gone!

Plectrum? Isn't that a line of Westones? Laughing I have a 1987 xa 1330 Cool
Its' funny, i've never heard a pick called anything but a pick till i met my English brother in law. It seems its quite the opposite on the other side of the Atlantic. I must admit, plectrum does sound cooler. I wonder which came firrst, the pick or the plectrum.
Wicked cool picks by the way, may have to order some.

Word Origin & History

plectrum
1626, from L. plectrum, from Gk. plektron "thing to strike with" (pick for a lyre, cock's supr, spear point, etc.), from plek-, root of plessein "to strike."
Online Etymology Dictionary, © 2010 Douglas Harper

There you have it Hobster, the year 1626 although stringed instruments were around before then.

They will be on their way tomorrow, hobster!.

Roll up, roll up, for the next tranche of plectrums...

That lot went so quick, that I didn't get any!

So. Anyone else interested?

I going to offer options, this time:
Black plectrum, with gold logo, as pictured above
Glow in the dark plectrum with black logo.
Blood Red with black logo

Weights as before, Medium Light (0.71) as before (my choice), Medium Heavy (0.81) or Bass player Thick (0.96).

A ten day turnaround from order, which means no glow in the dark for Hallowe'en (except I got one free with my order, with a ghost face on it, v. cute!)

£3.50 inc P&P for 10, although the glow in the dark are more expensive at £4.50 inc P&P for 10.

When I say 'offering options' I meant to say, 'vote on your preference'. I have to order a minimum of 100 at a time, so, if I do not get a minimum order of 50 for any given style, I will not be ordering them.

Final post, for tonight?

Here is a new link, for you international purchasers.

I have found that to post 10 (or more) plectrums to Europe or the US (and probably AUS) it is going to cost £1.50 for surface mail, which will take 10-14 days.

To that end, I have to make it clear that the links above are ONLY for UK purchases. If you are international please use the following link:

Thanks! These are the proverbial hot cakes! There are t-shirts and stickers available too! Search the forum that this message is in.

Got's to be the 'glo in the dark' ones then!

They ain't LCD, rabbit catching headlights jobbies, but, on stage, in the dark, they is gonna glow!

I reckon silver or black on glow in the dark would work. The black would stand out against the glowing plastic (the example I have from the supplier has black ink on it) and in the dark, the silver is probably going to look pretty black. But, in the light, the silver might look cool...

The colours that I got's choice from are:

Black, White, Glo, Orange, Green, Red, sky blue and pink.

IF you just want the Westone logo on it, I would need a minimum order, preferably of 30 or 50.

I kinda like the idea of pink or glo, but you can call the colour, if you want. Price is still £3.50 for 10, inc P&P to the UK

Hi, next time you have some in stock, I would like to purchase a set(or 6). I like the black with gold lettering, glo with black lettering, and possibly glo with silver lettering(a pic of one of these would be cool if it could be uploaded).

But yeah, I definitely would get 3sets of the black w/gold and another 3sets of the glo w/black....if silver looks good on glo, i'd prefer 2sets of each kind then, all in the .71 ofcourse.

To answer your question Mr Mike.

PayPal should only charge you for one element of postage per product, so if you order 2 or 3 or 4 sets of glowies you will get charged £1.50 for the postage of that item, if you order 2 or 3 or 4 sets of blacks, you should also only get charged £1.50 for the postage.

I have set it like this, for the ease of it. I am making zero profit from this activity, including the envelopes and trips to the post office, so rather than having to take your order, take it down the street to the post office to find the price, bring it back, let you know, wait for your payment, then put everything in the envelope again, seal it and take it BACK to the post office and actuallly despatch it, this makes it simple.

That said, if people PM me with their order, I can combine stuff, and then make a specific personal request through PayPal with combined postage prices, rather than you having to click the links in the forum

OK

This thread died a death, and I still have a good 50 or so plectrums left in a box, a good thousand stickers (both those that you stick on the side of an amp cabinet and those that you stick on a non official guitar case, also, if you seach you can get a good deal on hoodies and t-shirts with the Westone bird, as shown on the top of this site.

An honest appraisal - I found the plectrums to be really poor quality. Every single one of mine broke when I very first used them. And not just because I was using them on a bass and I hit the strings hard - I bought some for a guitarist and his did the same.

By contrast I am still using Jim Dunlop 1mm nylons that I bought 5 years ago.

Paul

I am sorry that you were disappointed. If you had PMd me, we could have sorted something out...

Just for the record, I have three from the original batch in my pick pocket (you know the one, front right on a pair of Levis) which I use on a weekly basis, on my acoustic, my Les Paul and my Thunder. I haven't used them on my Rail, but then I haven't used ANY pick on that machine!

I have had one or two break, the first one went 10 songs through a gig of rock songs, the second chipped the tip some way through a three hour rehearsal. That said, it wasn't 'on first use' and I have had almost all the types of plectrum I have tried, under 1mm break and shatter under heavy use. That is why we buy batches of them, no?

I appreciate that they might not be to everyone's taste, which is why I am selling them at cost price, plus postage. To be sure, they are 0.71mm thick, so almost identical to other 'medium' plectrums I have in my 'stash'. They are not flexible, they are of the standard plastic... Nothing fancy. standard 0.71 plectrums, in black or glow in the dark with the Westone logo on them.

I was about to put the last batch of the black ones in the post (there has been a flurry of activity, for some reason), but I am going to leave it until Monday (I am going away for the weekend in about an hour) in case anyone who has placed an order wishes to change their mind. If you do, PM me, and I will action the refund, all with no bad feelings.

Just to confirm, I have sold out of the black ones, but I do have 30 glow in the dark with silver logos available:
If you are outside the UK, please use this link to get these babies:

If you are in the good ol' UK, please use this link to place an order:

On the other hand, if you guys think that the thicker ones would be of more use, I will place an order for thicker ones, which will take a week or two to come through. I ordered the medium ones at the time two years ago, because they were the same thickness as the only plectrums I used then. Since then I have experimented with thinner and thicker ones. I do use V-Picks (thick see-through triangles) every now and again, but those picks do make the majority of my stash.

Let me know!

Admire your integrity DreamRaven - For 3 quid though i'm prepared to take my chances. It would hardly rank up there with some of my more expensive follies!
