Post by jeff fae scotland Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:08 am

Hi guys bit new to all this (and old) ,still finding my way round the site and how to post things and i hope this is the right place.

Like to say hello to all my fellow bass players out there and to every one on this forum.

Been playing bass since i was about 16 and, one of my greatest all time bass players is jack Bruce from Cream.

This guy inspired me through the years of my playing and have met him a few times through my X father in law who taught guitar.

Through my X father in law who as well being a teacher of guitar, fixed and "set them up"and i was handed every bass on the market to try it out.

Had a lot of basses myself through the years which some of them i regret selling like my G&L 1000 bass which is worth a small fortune now as it was one of the first models made

I am now the proud owner of a thunder 1-A bass which seems to be a 1983 going by the serial number but you guys can keep me right on that one as and when i learn to post pics anyway, nice to be part of this forum and the wealth of knowledge on it Cheers,, Very Happy

Say hello... - Page 13 Empty Mornin' all...

Post by punkyjam67 Fri Oct 26, 2012 8:06 am

Hello everyone, finally got my backside in gear & joined the forum after years of anonymous nebbing...

I'm a punk rock loving guitarist & bassist of indeterminate age (I'm sure I'm still 18, but my passport says I was born in 1967, so one of us is wrong...), & I've been known as Jam since I was a wee nipper, for reasons too painful to discuss in public...

Sadly, I don't own any Westones at present, having been forced through extreme penury last year to let my beloved pearl pink Pantera X300 go, but with a bit of luck I might be able to rectify that shortly.

My first Westone was a Thunder III bass, bought brand-spanking-new from McAmp Music in Lincoln in 1984, which was quite simply the best bass I've ever owned (& I've had a lot!):

Say hello... - Page 13 1984_t10

Unfortunately, my natural generosity backfired on me in 1992/93 when I lent it to a former band-mate, who promptly sold it for drugs... harsh lesson, quickly learnt! (incidentally, if anyone has a black ash Thunder III bass with the serial number 4073509, I'd love to see it again, with the promise of folding money if it's for sale...).

My other one was the aforementioned Pantera, bought new from Music Cabin in Lincoln in December 1987:

Say hello... - Page 13 1987_p11

I kept this as my sole guitar until June 2011, when sadly it had to go owing to far too many zeros on my bank statement...

So that's me - too bl**dy old, dubious taste in music, & Westone-less, but at least one of those is curable!

Jam

By the way, does anyone know anything about the Thunder II bass currently on eBay (item number 130788647770)?

I appreciate it's a late one, but I've never seen a Thunder II with a bolt-on neck before.

Thanks for that kristotoff, that's nice (especially with the case), but as you say, the price is a bit steep, I feel.

There's one on eBay at the moment that I'm looking at, though, so we'll see what happens... Smile

Post by carpcutter Sat Nov 03, 2012 4:00 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and have recently taken up guitar after playing bass for 15-20 years. My first non-knockaround guitar was a Paddy II that I picked up a year ago, and I just recently obtained an Electra Phoenix x185 (I think that's the model). Anyway, I joined the site to search for a headstock decal and some knobs for the Paddy, which is a super-funky little axe by the way, but I'll be checking in to see what kind of noise folks are making.

What's up everyone, My name is Fo..... I recently started looking into obtaining info on my X390DBK that I have had for years. I bought it when I was in High School ('95) and never really knew much about it besides the obvious fact that it is a beautiful and VERY player friendly guitar. I immediately fell in love with the push button pickup selectors and the push/pull effects pots. However I have since moved on to playing a slew of other instruments. I was a trumpet performance major in college and have had the opportunity to share the stage with some amazing musicians in a number of different countries since then. My guitar playing never took off like I wanted it to and therefore, I would like to get this awesome guitar into the hands of someone who would appreciate it and shred it like it was meant to be shredded!! This guitar has been played, quite a bit and could use some TLC from someone who knows what the hell they are doing. It needs the locking nut pieces replaced as they were lost years ago and apparently the jackass who owned it before me decided to replace one of the original pickups in it as well, as I have just discovered after seeing all of your posted pics. Other than that it's in pretty fair condition and still RIPS!!. Always lived in a case, etc.... Any questions, suggestions, offers, whatever, would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Will do Barry, I just kinda wanted to throw out a feeler to everyone to get an idea on what would be a fair asking price before I just sell myself short. I figured if anyone would be able to shoot me straight it'd be someone on here. I'm sure you understand.

Hey guys,

I started playing guitar about 4 months ago, and up until yesterday had only my trusty Epiphone Masterbilt acoustic. You can probably guess what happened yesterday... I got a Westone! My first electric guitar, I'm glad to say, is a 1987 blue Spectrum SX. Some people buy purebreds, and some people adopt mutts. I'm very proud to tell you I've rescued a real mongrel here, (thoroughly beaten by years on the road, random parts that suited the whims of various owners haphazardly slapped on, ridden hard and put up wet) but I think with a bit (or perhaps alot) of TLC, she'll be a real gem. That's where the forum comes in! Given that this is my first electric guitar and that I am in nearly every sense a guitar n00b, I'll be leaning on all of you Westoners to help me along in my mission to get this old gal (actually exactly my age) cranking out sweet music like she was meant to.

Name - Chase

Age - 25

Location - Panther City/Funkytown/Fort Worth, TX.

First guitar - Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500 Acoustic, Westone Spectrum SX

Musical
style/favorite bands - Blues, Rock, and Bluesrock. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Gary Clark Jr., Radio Head, The Black Keys

Hi, fretsters,
Found myself here after looking for information on a Westone Concord II I picked up yesterday for £50.00. It's probably fair to say that it's well road-worn (Oct 82 according to the serial number) but it feels 'comfortable' and I kind of like the way it looks. Sounds pretty good, too. It sure won't win any beauty prizes but then again, stunning women don't always make the best girlfriends... Cool
She looks quite at home next to my mature Hohner Arbor MX Series Strat. I'll stick a couple of pictures up when I've collected enough posts.
See you around the various forums,
Steve

Thanks, Sarge. I've just put a few snaps on the Owners forum. It plays even better after I spent an hour or two setting it up. Very pleased with it.

Hi all, Steve here, new to the guitar. Never played an instrument of any kind, now that I am in my 40's, thought I had better get started before the arthritis gets my fingers. Lol
Got a nice mint '86' spectrum gt yesterday and a chord book..... Ouch my hands and fingers can't make the shapes yet. I am living in Northamptomshire, U.K.
I'll attempt to load a quick pic. Say hello... - Page 13 My Westy

Welcome Steve!

Congrats with your Westone, they are nice guitars. Have fun learning to play, it took me about a year to even be able to put a good barre chord down! On a sidenote I would advice to take some lessons from a teacher too. It will learn you things that are often overlooked in textbooks or written coarses and helps with proper technique it is always more difficult reconditioning than conditioning! Some extra for motivation and material to work with too.

Oh, about posting pics, I think it is only possible as a new member when you contributed 10 posts or so. Check the FAQ section.

Cheers,

Hi Jim, thanks for the welcome, I have put a pic up as my avatar for now. I dare say I will be asking for some advice, my friend and my son have told me the set up is nice, I already have some open chord shapes sorted and one barre. I have to stare at the neck though. Exactly what bits are you after? If you're just looking for the locking washers and bolts, I would suggest you PM SgtVimes on this board as he has some that he will send to you for the price of postage. You will need 4 of the triangle ones and 2 of the rectangular ones, as they go above and below the strings. Do NOT overtighten!!
If, however, you're looking for the whole assembly, you are about to experience some frustration as they are not available commercially anymore. All I can suggest is that you keep an eye on eBay for either the stringlock, or a donor guitar if this is, indeed, the case! Sorry...

Welcome here; you have a beauty of a guitar in the FX; I don't have one in my motley collection of Spectrums and sometimes wished I did!! I look forward to seeing some pix...

Say hello... - Page 13 Empty Hola, yo tambien tengo una Westone

Post by pererock Fri Mar 01, 2013 3:27 pm

Hola a todos,

Recién llegado a este foro, lo primero naturalmente, es saludaros y en segundo lugar, preguntar por mi Westone.

Mi guitarra es una Westone Spectrum Series II

https://i.servimg.com/u/f76/18/15/09/64/2013-012.jpgWestone Spectrum Series II

Saludos cordiales

Post by Catalyst Sat Mar 02, 2013 5:32 am

Hi all, been lurking for a few days now....thought I should be polite and sign in and introduce myself.

Couple of years ago (don't worry, I'm gonna be brief), I happened to mention to my next door neighbour that I was thinking about getting a new guitar for my son as he had outgrown his Epiphone Special II. He said he had one that he didn't play anymore and I could buy it if it suited.
I went round to have a look at it and the tatty old box he brought out didn't exactly fill me with any confidence, I was already trying to think how I could politely say thanks, but no thanks!
He took it out and, although the name meant absolutely nothing to me, I could tell by the workmanship it was great quality so I bought it there and then.
Having carried out a bit of web research I found out I had purchased a near mint Aria FS-1000.
My son, who is 12, didn't like the colour of it so unfortunately I had to keep the Aria and bought my son another Epiphone Very Happy

My son has now come to realise that quality is quality, regardless of the name on the headstock, and we have gone on to buy a few other Matsumoku goodies - we have a Westone Concord 3, Aria CS-350, 2 Westbury Standards, Aria Laser Electric Classic bass, Westone Thunder 1 bass and a Vox Custom 3002 bass.

Just thought I'd share how we kinda stumbled upon these terrific guitars, I have a lot to thank that conversation with my neighbour for Smile

I found another site recently that also contains Matsumokunuts so I've posted the same introduction there as well! Some might think I'm too bone idle to write two different introductions, and they would be correct in that assumption. Wink

Mucho saludos, pererock. Just taking a swing at your introduction with Google Translate here...

Hi all, Newcomer to this forum. First, (of course) greetings to you all, and second, I have a question to ask of my Westone. My guitar is a Westone Spectrum Series II (linked here). I am hopeful someone could tell me the exact model please, as clearly as that is possible. You will notice she is missing the volume and tone knobs which are somewhere around my house I'm sure, I just have to run them down. I still play it and love it. I hope you can asnswer my questions about her. Best Regards, pererock.

SECOND POST...

I hope now it looks good. (linked here)

Your girl looks very good in both pictures. She is a late model MIK (Made in Korea) Westone for certain. The combination of the older W-Bird logo w/Westone headstock and the slash/triangle neck markers are something I have seen rarely though.

A search in our archive and info site didn't yield a catalog scan of it either, so it must be in the missing 1988 catalog. I would like to suggest that Barry grabs a copy of your picture to add to our reference site.

She is a very sharp looker, no doubt about that.

Iceman, thank you very much for the information. Smile

Certainly I was acquired my guitar in the late eighties and was provably in 88.

I searched in the archives on this site, and that most resembles is the SP5112 with the difference that the body is not beveled.
I liked your final comment. Surprised

I hope Barry include it, but while maybe I can find the missing pieces and can send a better picture.

Please feel free to email me as many pictures as you like of your girl, pererock. You will see an envelope icon near my avatar which when clicked will link you to my email service.

We have a shortage of pics of that particular model in the reference pages and your assistance in augmenting our library would be of great service to our community.

Thank you in advance and again we welcome you. Any other Westones (or other guits for that matter)?

Hi all I purchased my first ever Westone bass at a boot sale today and thought I'd join this forum to gain further information and some help as this bass has an electrical issue for which at a later date I will post for some answers anyway a bit about me I've been attempting to play the bass properly for 40 years ,, I kid you not ,, I have a collection of 32 bass guitars at present dating back to 1964 up to the newest a Rickenbacker 4003 purchased in late 2010 and the newest addition is a Westone Concord 1 Bass and was wondering what it would be worth, My guess would be £100 > £200 unless you know differently, I do know from the serial number 2010527 that it was made by Matsumoku Japan in January 1982 it has the serial number 0527 it is finished in a dark blue colour which I think Westone call Loyal Blue, there you have it about me briefly and I would like to thank all who took the time to read my Hello post ,,, Musicmutt (Ant)
