Hello
I'm new to this forum,I got interested in westone guitar's last month. I was at work, I work with some younger guy's (I'm 55 but still play show's with my band) and my son, one day he noticed this co-worker tossing this old guitar in the dumpster he told the guy to ask if i wanted this guitar he didn't know what he had. He was about to throw away a 1990-88 westone spretrum GT with complete Kahler tremleo system, No pickups. this is my first westone it's a white crackle finish, neck and body are in awesome shape. I plan to restore and play this Bad boy!

Re: Say hello...
No need to be ashamed of synthesiser leanings, there, Mike - a few of us do admit to playing keyboards in addition to rabidly promoting our favoured guitar brand!! I have an Alesis QS-6 which I have been known to play from time to time but it is very hard to adopt 'Rock-god guitar hero-type' poses behind a synth!!

Re: Say hello...
Well....technically this is a computer program....but yeah. I used to use mixcraft 5, but got tired of all the bugs not being fixed(it was a paid version)....switched to the bug-less Audacity and have had no probs whatsoever, though it's slightly more limited in functionality, it's still better since it's 100% free.
Wish I knew whatever happened to that Aria....all I got is a pic of me playing it when I was 8. If I remember correctly, dad had the gain and volume turned up so high, my mom couldn't hold camera steady. (just pretend that's a head-banger smiley)

Rico, is that Angers the one just south of Le Mans?? When I go to France I go through St Malo, just to your north!! And if you're looking for an electric 12, then Aria Pro II and Vantage both did very very good ones indeed!!

The Vantage seem to pop up in Europe quite often, and there is a swedish bloke on another forum with anST1512 that he found in Sweden, so they're out there, man!!

Hey, yes small French which plays a little guitar for these last 20 years. He has also a big sense of humor and likes travelling, where from my Creole origins of the Indian Ocean. Of beautiful sensations and different rhythms in these very warm countries.
Never going to states but dream to win at the bingo to visit your beautiful continent from west to east by the road 66 for example.
Yep, kisses to the young ladies in passing and to all European who post on this beautiful sîte.
Effectively Angers is between Le Mans (Circuit of 24 hours known well by aficionados) and Nantes (beautiful student city near atlantic océan)

HELLO and Welcome to everybody from me too!
Hey John, what's so boring about our regulars (or in my case, not so regular), huh, huh?
Yes guys, the Mother of you all is still very much alive and still kicking ass!
I just popped in to welcome all of the newbies and to wish you all a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS. Let's hope the New Year is better than this one has been and that I get time to take up the reins once more... I miss you guys!

G'day, Pelle; welcome here and I'm quite sure the lads and lasses in here will; be able to help you get your Spectrum back into fighting trim!!
My personal perversion is for the Spectrums and I have a few of them and one lone Electra Phoenix so you're in good hands, because Barry - our pet Canadian - is also a Spectrum man.
Now as I said when I answered your post in the Tech section, we need to see what you've got, mate.... because we like looking at other peoples Westones! Oh, OK, and because we can see what we're dealing with!!

Intro
My name's Chris Roberts. I'm currently playing in two groups: F.A.T.E. and another group unofficially named Collins. I own a Westone Genesis I and I reside in Charleston, SC. I also frequent open mics as a solo acoustic act, as well as campus events at CofC. I'm a Psychology Major at CofC, and dabbling in Music Theory and Comp classes as well. Looking for Westone pieces currently. I need a Bendmaster Deluxe Tremolo Arm and the pieces for the nut as well. Your help is all greatly appreciated in advance! I'm just a nice guy like that!!!
Re: Say hello...
Sounds like the intro to a 12 step program.ChrisRoberts wrote:My name's Chris Roberts. ...I'm a Psychology Major at CofC..
No matter, we won't hold that against you. Welcome!
Ain't we all? Nice to hear you have a Genesis, not too many here. You will post pix yes?Looking for Westone pieces currently.

When I get back home I'll take some pics and post them. Hahaha. Glad you're not holding the AA meeting intro against me. All I need is the nutpieces, a tremolo arm, some new knobs, and a set of screws for the backplate. Be on the look out for the pics.
Re: Say hello...
My name is Oscar and i'm from Sweden. I have a Thunder IIA guitar and a spectrum LX.
I bought the Thunder when i started playing guitar maybe 13 years ago, and i've owned the spectrum for maybe 7 years. Bought the spectrum a month or two before my band disbanded, woho...
I don't play much guitar at all nowadays, since i figured out i don't have much talent and wasn't willing to replace that with hard work

speaking of vikings, i guess it's suits quite well with a pic of me, that's from 1 year ago:

Westone Veteran
Hello everyone,
My name is Steve (user name rebuild, which I may change later). I have been playing Westone's since 1986, when I purchased my first Dimension IV brand new. I have owned 7 Westone's since then and my current line-up consists of 3 Dimension IVs ( red, white, and black ) and a black Dynasty. I own 9 vintage strats (1969 thru 1979... I like the large headstock years), an alpine white '96 Les Paul, a black Ibanez Gem, 2 decent acoustics and several lower brand strat copies which play well and have cool colors. At one time I even owned a Westone electric, which was covered in blue snakeskin.
Needless to say, my favorites are the Westone's, which is why I am happy to have discovered this Westone Forum. Over the years, I have had to make replacement parts myself using a Dremmel and large grinder and metal files. Recently, I stumbled upon a machine shop in my area, and asked them to duplicate the tremelo string claws for my Westone's and they did a perfect job... and a whole lot faster than my old barbaric methods.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello to all of you, and share my Westone story. I have been a forum member for about 7 hours now. Hope to hear from you. Bye for now.

Introduction
Hello! My name is Jeff, I'm 26 years old (for the last 11 years). I played guitar obsessively as a teenager until I was draw away by "other interests". I recently have rediscovered how much i LOVE playing the guitar, and the skills are coming back to me far better than I ever would have expected.
My first guitar was a Westone Genesis II XA1630 1987 anniversary edition in "black cherry" or whatever they called it. I call it purple. I will own this guitar forever. I love it. It was given to me by my mother who struggled to afford it, and even 20-some years later, this is STILL a GREAT guitar. When I removed it from its case a few months back, I was worried that the neck would have warped, the fretboard cracked, or some other misfortune, but not a thing wrong with it. Well, correction, the only thing wrong with it is that my younger step-brother was a little hard on it for a while, but it's still in great shape.
I had an EMG 81 installed in the bridge position 20 years ago, had an EMG SA installed in the neck position, and after a 20 year break, I'm having an SA-X installed in the middle position. I'm pretty excited about it. The only other mods to my guitar was a replacement of the original Westone string lock. It was damaged, a stripped screw I think, and it was replaced with a Kahler style locking nut.
I have a Fender Squire J-bass, mostly a toy, but I would like to get up to speed on filling in bass lines either for recording my own accompaniment or to get my feet wet playing in a band. I've got a Takamine acoustic G-series 6-string, which, by the way, is a *really* nice acoustic for the price. I've got a cheap 5-string banjo which I would really like to learn to play better, but its a frustrating instrument for me to say the least. I've got a Les Paul Studio. I love them all for each of their individual characters. I bought the LPS thinking I'd get a better distortion tone, but so far I think the Westone with the EMGs is the closest to the sound I've been searching for.
As far as music I like and would like to play, I still like the 80s hair/metal bands, but I like country, jazz, bluegrass, pop, you name it, I've probably got a favorite. Lately, I've been particularly enjoying Zac Brown Band, Fates Warning (Parallels), Andy McKee, and my all-time favorite hair band, Dokken. (Yes, I still like George's playing.)
I currently live in St. Petersburg, Florida which is in the Tampa Bay area. I would like at some point to find some people to play with, but I've got a bit more catching up on practice to do before I put myself out for too much scrutiny.
Great to find this site!

Beeflin arrives clutching a NOS Thunder 1A (3rd edition)
Name - Steve
Age - 53
Location - Totnes
First guitar - Zenta FT-2T (Telecasterish)
Musical style/favourite bands - Rock, pop, something approaching jazz... Purple, Zep, Crimson, Faust, T.Rex, Free, Mahavishnu, Focus...
Current Westone - 1984 Thunder 1A, almost unplayed, one fairly careful owner before me, just bought it (Jan 2011).
Other instruments - Burns Sonic Model, Eccleshall Barracuda, Eccleshall Scimitar, Epiphone Firebird, Ridgewood Strat, the bits for another Strat project, Hohner acoustic, Raimundo classical, Guyzer bass, Roland V-drumkit , Marshall 30th Anniversary combo, analog.man Beano Boost, iMac, Pro Tools
Favourite instrument - The Thunder's too new to judge, not even finished setting it up so I'll have to say it's a tie between my Burns and my Eccleshall Scimitar.
Great lost guitar - A 1964 Gibson Firebird III bought for £495 in 1979 and sold for £275 in 1981 (wince).
Still want: Gibson Lou Pallo Les Paul & a real Telecaster. I have an Eccleshall Special acoustic being built.

hello Everybody
Hi all, my name is Ian, I'm 41 and live near Cambridge in the UK. I've been playing guitar for about 25 years...god that makes me feel old, and makes me wish I'd practiced harder.
My first guitar (and still my favourite) is a Westone thunder 1 in natural, i hated it when my Dad took me to buy my 1st guitar but in hindsight I'm really glad he persuaded me to buy it. I also have a '92 strat with a deluxe bridge and TBX tone control (waste of time), Ibanez RG570 in a blue to black sunburst over flame maple with a super distortion in the bridge position, Yamaha APX 400 electo acoustic. amp wise I've got a Acoustic Sound Contol g100t (very similar to a mesa boogie Mk3) built in the 70s or 80s...sounds awesome but a bit loud for home use , a boss se50 for reverb/delays etc and a Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive for extra boost.
I could never get rid of the Westone and hope that one day I'll find the guitar that surpasses it...mmmmmm...although I think Jazzia'a brown 'burst, flame maple thunder looks like a good bet!
My favourite guitarist is George Lynch but listen to all types of music, especially if it features guitar.
I'm glad to have found like minded Westone lovers!!!

Hi!
Seth, from Lafayette, Indiana, in ye ole US. Been playing guitar for 13 years and have gone through a few guitars over that time, wheelin' and a dealin'. Just recently picked up a Westone off of craigslist yesterday. It is definitely a project in the making and will make a thread about it. Got, now, 9 electrics and 2 acoustics, rack rig and a 2x12 w/Celestions. I'm in a band, symphonic metal with a front woman! I listen to rock/metal/some country(Brad Paisley)/classical, and 80's tunes. Well, time to make new threads and glad to meet you all!!

Re: Say hello...
Hello, as you may have seen I've been making a nuisance of my self for a bit now, without saying hello.
Not to give to much away, in the 1960's my first guitar was a beat up Angelica dreadnought with a big acoustic voice, armed with C, F ,G7 & couple of friends we got up at the local folk Club just for fun & though my taste in genre's have changed over the years I've only ever played for my own amusement. Not to forget Skiffle, which was another name for not being able to afford a proper instrument but the sounds we got out of a Tea chest, broomstick & a piece of string plus what ever was lying around & a posh guy with the only Guitar was amazing. There wasn't a lot of music shops around then or the money to buy instruments, just think of the gear that should have been brought from the mid 1950's to 1980 & since of course.
Coming from a musical family I did the obvious thing & became a Silversmith. I really enjoyed being part of the wonderful skills found in the Birmingham Jewelry Quarter, sadly pretty much lost now.
The recession of the late 70's saw me turn my hobby into a business & built it into a successful vintage car restoration business, from which I retired just over a year ago. With my new found time, I've been able to pick up my Session II, bought in the late 80's because it took my eye & the workmanship in it appealed to me. It was only recently I leaned about uncle Mat & realised why I had always been so pleased with my reasonably priced Guitar. I enjoy the blues these days, still only play for my amusement & to annoy the wife.
I have a Maton T1 which is an incredible electro acoustic & an Epiphone Sheraton which is well, alright, now of course I have a Prestige 250, Pantera X300 with a Pantera X390 on the way, as well as my pretty Session II.

Hi Everybody,
I'm Phil, from Melbourne, Australia. I was a member of the old forum but only just got around to finding the new one. I'm glad I did! I'm 42 years old (crikey, am I really?) and work as a research scientist for a company making anti-flu drugs. I've been playing guitar on and off since I was 5, but the first guitar I ever bought with my sweat stained savings was a red 1984 Westone Concord. She has served me well all these years and the only changes I have made have been to install new pickups (Fender Fat 50's) and add some matching white knobs. Though I own 10 other electric guitars, including some more expensive Fender and G&L instruments, I always gravitate to the Concord. Every detail of its playing response is imprinted on my brain, so much so that it feels like an extension of my hands.
I'm a big fan of MIJ guitars and Westones in particular. I quite fancy the idea of picking up a Thunder one day, I'm just waiting for the universe to present the opportunity . Westones of any description are hard to find in Australia, though I once saw an identical Concord to mine on Australian E-Bay that had the very next serial number. What are the chances?
I play mainly fingerstyle country and jazz these days but enjoy letting rip on some indie rock classics when the wife and kids aren't around to complain about the noise .
Thanks for reading. I'm off to have a browse of the old posts to see what I've been missing!

An official "howdy" to you Fish and Philby!
Fish, I'm envious of your Session. It's on my wish list...one day (sigh).
And Philby? You've got a lot of reading ahead my man! See you again about St. Swithin's Day!
Great to have you both here.
