Bit of help on Spectrum please Empty Bit of help on Spectrum please

Post by norfolkngood Wed Dec 30, 2009 7:09 pm

Hi all

Work will take me to London in the new year and I'll fit in a visit to the guitar shops on Denmark Street (bet I'll find me no Westones though!). I will be on the lookout for a couple of bits for my 1985 Spectrum SX and wonder if anyone can help ....

1) The plastic tip on the pick-up selector switch is missing, is this pointed (like a Strat's) or shaped like a little barrel?

2) Am I likely to be able to find knobs to match the original black plastic ones?

Also, and because I'm getting geeky for originality now, the guitar had two trem bars in the gig-bag, one matt black and straight and the other chrome with a bend. Which would have been the original?

Cheers for any help and best to all on here for 2010 Wink

Have a look at my ST...

Bit of help on Spectrum please Photo5

... that's the OEM bar, and the switch tip is a wee barrel. The knobs.... well, that's the Holy Grail, my friend; they're as rare as chickens lips, eh!! However, one of the clever buggers in here has found this site...

...and they look good!!

Happy New Year, bro!!

It's not really possible to compare the ST an SX, they have different switches and trem systems. The knob on the 5 way switch on the SX should be pointed, the trem arm should have a bend in it.

I agree; the ST is the basic bones model and will have budget kit on it ....BUT, the bar on the SX in .info's data looks exactly like the ST one, so probably not too far away for all intents and porpoises - shame we can't see the switch tip, eh!! If memory serves - not always a reliable proposition!! - my GT has a barrel switch tip....

Probably does, all the 3 way switches i've seen on Westones do. None of the 5 way (Strat style) switches do though.

Forgot to mention, the tips on the ST/GT won't fit - all the 3 way switches use screw on tips, the 5 way switch tips are push fit

Hendrik,
What LX model is shown in your picture of knobs and switches.
The switches do not appear on any other LX just the three knobs.
Confused Fraser!
.............and a happy new year to all Westonians.

I found a guy here in Holland who makes repro knobs for old radios. Scroll down a bit:
