Concord - Best sounding Concord? Empty Best sounding Concord?

Post by cmon_manny Fri Dec 26, 2014 5:50 pm

I own and regularly gig a Thinder IIa from 1982
I want a concord, but not to collect
Which concord, year, shape plays and sounds the best?
I'm sure you'll all say all of them, but say 1983, difference between a iii and ii sound wise?
Much love!

concord 3 has much better pickups than a concord 2
i have a concord 3 in both early and later body style and there is no difference in sound

this pickguard is from a concord 2, with single bar magnet on each pickup

this is a concord 3 pickguard with the double bar magnets on each pickup

no contest, concord 3 sounds better

You see this is why this forum is amazing. Evidence based critique of tone and a kind offer to actually try for myself.
Concord iii it is!

I have a new shape 2 & 3 and three old shape 2's, I much prefer the old shape to the newer,  they seem more solid, the shape sits better in my sitting position, the newer sounds a bit plasticy /hollow when unplugged, but I still can't say for sure why.

The III by far is better sounding as standard.

Best sounding Concord I've had was a II  hard tail, rosewood board with Fender usa standard pups.

Thanks for the tip on the iii gittarasaurus! Pickups are dead quiet!
Huge Strat tone and a killer guitar! Goes so nicely with my Thunder IIa...
