Pick-up volumes on Session II

Hi all. First post here, so apologies if this has been asked before. I've had a Session II for nearly 20 years and gig with it exclusively. Love the sound, the look, and the feel of my guitar, but recently I've been noticing a serious difference in volume between the neck and bridge pick-ups.

Is this a problem I can fix, or am I looking at a major fix?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Assuming there are no electronic issues, what you are describing is normally a result of relative pickup height. You didn't mention which one appears lower in volume, but it doesn't matter, just set your volume knobs equal, then simply raise or lower the pickup mounting rings until your ears tell you it's right.

You do that by adjusting the screws at either end of the pickup (in the middle). Clockwise = down, anti-clockwise = up. Don't touch the 4 outer screws as they hold the rings and the pickups in the guitar.

The rule of thumb is, the closer to the strings the louder the output. But careful not to place the poles too close to the strings or two things can happen: 1) the magnetic pull will affect the string vibration and cause a lot of distortion. 2) the pickup case will be in the way and you'll hit it with your pick fingers.

If there is no difference, then you'll need to get more serious with your sleuthing, but let's try the easiest thing first eh?

I REALLY wish I didn't sell my Session II, it's pickups were very well balanced and sounded great.  Pickup height is definitely a possibility, but something I learned recently from a video of  Mr Seymour Duncan , is that sometimes pickups become de-magnetized.  Having a magnet too close to a pickup will do the trick, and in the video he stated that it was surprisingly common how often people mention to him that a pickup became weak, with that being the cause.  Test the output of each PUP - You will see quickly if it is the pickups or not.

Quite right Sarc. I've not had it happen to me but pickups are magnets and despite the "permanent" label, bad stuff can still happen to them.
