What kind of wood? Empty What kind of wood?

Post by bcn Wed Apr 17, 2013 1:07 pm

Hello,

I was thinking of buying a lef-handed guitar. I have found a very simple guitar. I do not find information in the net. It seems that this brand has only been distributed with this name in Spain many years ago. It seems that the guitar has manufactured in Korea. Maybe in other countries are sold under another name. The distribution of the pegs is very particular (4 + 2). Looking at the photos, do you know what type of wood is used to build the body and neck and pegbox? Really I would prefer a Westone like this:

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/westone/1013879338

I attached pics of the guitar with the wood unknown to me

Regards

Sen wood. Grows in Korea/Japan and thereabouts.
Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.

It does resemble ash in appearance.

Many makers have used this timber for guitars.
Including Fender/Gison/Ibanez and many others.

In effect appears sen.

http://www.hellotrade.com/gotthilf-dieterle/product1.html

Do you know any brand or model with the distribution of pegs 4 +2? I have seen very few guitars but I only remember that they were (6 + 0) or (3 + 3)

By the way, this guitar seems very basic but maybe it's interesting for me if the price is good. I know absolutely nothing about playing guitar and music theory.

In view of the the pictures what you think about the hardware (knobs, bridge, frets, pegs, ...) and your opinion about pickups?

The current owner bought it new a year ago at a store where the guitar wore 20 years. It's a new guitar made in Korea about 20 years ago. The current owner has used a few times in this year because it does not have the patience to learn to play.

What do you think about this guitar? .The owner marks a non-negotiable price of 200 euros (250 dollars)

Sorry for so many questions! Smile

Yup! Music Man.
The reason for the 4+2 is to maintain as straight a line as possible to the machine heads. This particularly helpful for guitars equipped with a tremolo bridge. (Reduces the chances of the string binding on the nut)

Looks like it to me, Sarge. Apparently they only sold the good ones separately and stuck to the tried 'n true Strat style on their instruments.

Pantera x275cs was supposedly built out of sen wood too.

Nothing special, just a cheapo guitar.

Wouldn't pay 200 Euros. Seems very expensive.

Hello,
I do not buy it. The guitar is very expensive for its simplicity. But, I like the wood of its body. Sen is a beautiful wood.

I will continue looking for a nice left-hand guitar with no lackered finish. I prefer finish in natural wood.

I have seen some Westone Thunder left-hand. The wood is very nice.

Thanks for yous answers
Manel

A Thunder would be a GREAT choice, Manuel. A Westone Spectrum will be easier to find, Westone Spectrum is a great guitar.

More chance of finding a Thunder than a Spectrum, especially L/handed and I've never seen a Spectrum in 'wood' just painted.

never seen it on a Westone Spectrum, but i have an Electra Phoenix with an unpainted body and maple fretboard. the body is nice, probably ash. it has a light, oil finish, so it has an open grain feel to it, but not like raw wood, very nice! appears to be original, not a refinish.

when i got it there was an active EMG pickup installed, but it was done badly with taped connections and the battery just stuffed in the control cavity. i removed all that mucky-muck and put in a Carvin pickup i had on hand. volume/tone with coil split mini switch, tremolo

Hello,
Finally I've decided not to buy a guitar. I would try to play a bass . A left-hand bass Thunder would be perfect.
I think it will be a difficult task to get one Surprised

Thank you
