Anyone out there have a good spare bridge pup for a Genisis II bass? Looks like maybe the Pantera pup is the same. I'm really wanting to keep this thing original, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it is completely goosed? Maybe it needs a hookup wire resoldered at the coil.

I'm looking at the pup w/ a 10x magnafying glass right now to see if I can find the outer end wire of the coil wind, hoax. Fortunately, I haven't lost the inner wind wire yet........black on one coil was broken off and I lost the copper in the process of removing the cover tape.

If you find the end, just unwind it enough to allow sufficient spare wire to resolder to hook up.

It is a bit hit and miss and I usually manage to save about 50% of pick ups in this way.

Good luck

I think I may have to get a jewelers loupe to find the end, the eyes aren't as good as they used to be....lol. Hopefully I can find it, resolder, and save the pickup. Mrs. contrahell won't be too happy about me buying another bass, even if it is for parts!

Too bad you aren't looking for a Genesis 6-string pup. Plenty of folks should have those available to judge by the trashing they get around here.

Actually, I have at least 3 extra of those myself, IIRC...

Long story short, the one coil is smoked. Guess I try my hand at pup winding now......

Picked this Genisis up cheap, the neck is awesome on this thing! (True with all of the Mats stuff from the 70-80's that I've played)

I'll post some pix of my Matsumoku basses when I get more time.

Hey Contra

Another fix I have used many a time is just to change the coil over. I do it pretty regularly with MMK 45's and Dimarzios and sometimes create Frankenstein mixes which work very well.

Apart from rewinding your bass pup, (which is a very common fault on those bass pups, they rot at the solder end usually the inner).
Here's a simple fix.
