Has anyone changed the original pickups on the Thunder I? Mine is a 1984 and I assume it has the Hammer I pickups. I like the sound but was just wondering whether I would notice a big difference with new pickups. I guess it will depend on what they are replaced with.

I like a bluesy type sound. Maybe Gary Moore or BB King et al sound. I am hoping a change of sound would make up for a lack of technical ability.

That tone you seek is actually locked up in your wrists and fingers, jojo. Smile Not much is really wrong with the stock pups in those Thunders from all accounts I can recollect.

Perhaps a stompbox such as an English Muff'n or a Keeley-modded Blues Driver would be a more fruitful plan of attack?

If you're after a Gary Moore / BB King sound, I'd say you're using the wrong guitar. In addition to what Ice said, you'd be closer to it on a Les Paul / ES335.

In Mats' terms that's likely something from the Aria Pro II LC/LS lineup or a Westone Rainbow.

Man that's what bothers me, I just can't find the key for that lock.

I have a Roland Micro Cube practice amp somewhere with lots of different sounds to play with and lurking in a cupboard is a Bad Monkey pedal. Will have a play about with the sounds. I have had the Westone for years but I only ever play my acoustic, so all this is new to me - Like being a beginner again. Wife and daughter not impressed so far.

Thanks for all the help.

Not to worry jojo, picking locks is far more fun than just using a boring old key.

The fam may not be impressed AT THE MOMENT... but they will my man, they will... Metal Head
