Well kids, here's the poop.

The Thunder that I just acquired is missing one brass saddle. (How the %^*&$ does that happen anyway?).
To replace it outright with a new Gotoh GTC101 (original equipment) will cost me over $60 whether I get it directly from Japan or the States, and that's more than I paid for the guitar. That ain't happenin'!

Almost the same price for the saddles if I can find the correct size (which so far I can't). In any event, you can't buy just one, you hve to buy the set. That ain't happenin' either!

So-o-o, I remembered that I still had the STC tremolo bridge that I removed from the Aria Pro II Urchin 60T that I restored some time ago. The thought occurred that in a pinch I could rob the saddles off it. Wouldn't look too bad, black and brass. Still, not as good as the real thing, but at least I can play her.

(that's a cheap saddle off a Squire in case you're wondering what the shiny thing is)

So, anyone have a brass saddle for a Thunder? I'm willing to swap the trem unit. Heavy little bugger it is too. Looks like it might replace an FT??

Well folks, I've scoured the interwebs for a (cheap) solution to the missing brass saddle, but to no avail.

So now I'm thinking, rather than scavenge the STC bridge, I might pick up one of those (cheap) bridge replacements from Hong Kong (10.5mm spacing), toss the plate and use the saddles from it.

Can't be too picky but they are zinc, therefore quite light. But, I think they'll not be too bad, and shouldn't affect the sound too much if I retain the brass plate. Only decision is black or brass. Oh, and I just found a "distressed chrome" version which could be interesting.

Comments?

I tell ya, the thought did cross my mind. Razz
Then I had a Scotch and lay down 'til the thought went away.

I've decided to buy a *ahem* cheap top loader bridge and use one or more of the saddles from it.
Thanks.

did you ever find a brass saddle replacement barry? I have some that I took off the LH green Concord III, not sure if they're brass or plated, I'll fish them out later and have a measure up.
