Looking For Some Bluezzz?
I find myself sitting outside a lot these days, now that the good weather is finally here, with my new little tablet
computer. I find it's very handy for surfing and watching videos etc.
I'm also a radio kinda guy, so I tend to listen to on the computer it as I'm "computering", mostly talk radio. Also very handy. But when I get tired of the yak yak yak, I switch to a music station or two. Well I felt the urge for something different the other day and I let the
application suggest something new to try. It kicked out the Internet Blues Radio station KOQX out of San Jose California. http://www.koqx.com/
Well sir, maybe I'm coming to it later than some, but I'm really enjoying it! 24/7 free, and no commercials. What more could you axe for?
Together with my monthly fix of https://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/ I'm a happy guy!
I know there are other similar stations out there, but I'm currently enjoying this one a lot.

Re: Looking For Some Bluezzz?
If Italy win the European cup you'll have a good time over there Micro.
Just tuned into that station Barry. The first record playing was
Les Paul 'Walkin' and Whistlin' Blues' almost shattered my eardrums. It came through the sound system here(loud) and due to the early recording was piercing. Ouch! He can't whistle.
Good station though.
Still catch Daryl's House, excellent.

I'll try it on my internet radio at home. Looking forward to it. I have been listening to "AOR then and now" lately, but something tells me that's not Barry's cup of tea .
Micro, will you be riding through Switzerland (you should of course as the passes over the Alps are breathtaking), and what bike will you be riding (please don't answer BMW)?

Re: Looking For Some Bluezzz?
amazing how the internet obliterates geography!
i have lived in san jose (about 3 years now) and i never heard of that one. i'll be checking it out. there is quite a thriving blues scene here in the bay area. so i guess that's why somebody does an online stream from around here.
san francisco is an hour north, then there is berkeley and oakland in the 'east bay'. san jose is the second largest (population) city in california after LA. there is over 3 million people in the whole bay area. monterey is only a couple hour drive south too, festival city...
a continuous deluge of local, national, and international music talent of every imaginable sort passes through this area. it is just amazing. there are over 30 languages commonly spoken in the san francisco bay area. communities of people from all over the world have brought their culture and their music with them. whatever you want, you can find it here.

Re: Looking For Some Bluezzz?
Just a quick addendum...I mostly listen on my Android tablet computer running an app called Tune In Radio. This nice because it also will show you a graphic of the Album/CD cover from which the current tune is taken. Very handy if you want track down a particular artist!
No problems running under Windows with Windows Player but no pictures.

Even more Bluezzz!
Just had to update this thread with the addition of another fantastic internet blues station (stations actually). This one in particular is outa Chicago!
I stumbled on the site AddictedToRadio.com which offers about 40 stations, of all types, but the station that's turning my crank right now is Bar Rockin' Blues. It's a great mixture of blues music, contemporary as well as traditional. Seems to have a more "bar" feel to it...ya know? (Hence the name, duh)
Most of the cuts make you want to get up and shake what yer mama gave ya,
instead of reaching for the scotch bottle and razor blades.
There is also a Blues Classics Channel if you feel like really going into a depressive state and actually cutting yerself with above mentioned razor blades.
The channels will play inside your browser if you're totally lazy, but I've experienced a lot of dropped feeds that way. I find using WinAmp (free) is much more stable. You can get the channel URL's HERE. Just drop 'em into the File/Open URL option in WinAmp and Bob's yer Uncle.
Only "down side"? It does carry a few commercials but they're mercifully short.
