You could try a graphite nut. I've installed one on Rainbow equiped with flatwounds and I like 'm.

I don't know that it matters that much, but I might be inclined to go with bone/Tusq over graphite. Seems more period correct somehow. The graphite might be better suited to a trem equipped guitar because of the low friction.

I haven't looked around but you might be able to find a brass or even an aluminum one somewhere? Brass is really preferred for that Thunder sound eh?

I've bought graphite blanks, and with the help of some on here to give me measurements, have made my own to fit. If you plan on doing it more than once then invest in the files. It did take me a few tries to make mine, but the blanks were cheap (files were not).

If you can use a file or have a buff you can make one from a brass bolt like i did once.A brass nut is great if you are playing open strings and want the string to ring but,it is pointless when you press a fret or,bar chords.

I had good comms with this ebay shop, he will make a copy of your nut, if you have the original that is..he doesnt list it but will order in brass for you.
