Well as a group Glass Harp was best known for the guitar player in the trio rather than any huge hits. Phil Keaggy is (IMHO) one of the top 5 players still today, and certainly was back in the 70's one of the top 10.
Very interesting vid links you posted, Mike. I really dig these "hidden" jewels.
Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
All the Glass Harp kids(audience) look totally bemused or 'stoned'
The 70's experimental guitar players eh. Can buy a sound in a box these days and a spare packet of fingers.
Is that a burlesque looking Session II avatar:)

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
I donn't know Iceman his guitar playing was not that impressive to me (just my opinion) but but a truely under-rated guitar player from the 70's is Jan Akkerman from Focus. He is a guitar player who did not get the credit he richly deserved !!!!

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
+1 to Jan Akkerman, though he is quite well known!
Got to say, Ice, I'm sorry but Glass Harp doesn't do it for me personally, though I am known to have cloth ears!
There's a couple of Australian players who aren't particularly well known outside Aus, like Ian Moss and Rick Brewster who light my candle, as well as Ian Riddell and Neil Finn from NZ who write and perform lovely guitar based tunes....

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
+1 to John's +1... Akkerman is a fantastic artist!
Glass Harp was never really my cup of tea either but Keaggy certainly is.
A more recent outing with that same LP from over 30 years ago. Not too shabby for a guy missing much of one finger on his picking hand...

Always thought Glass Harp had been sadly under-appreciated. Keagy has a parallel career as the top Christian music guitarist. That's also a part go all the Glass Harp albums.
He lives up in Nashville and appears fairly often around the area. ;-)

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
Folks, while I'm sure we all appreciate the interesting video clips, at the same time putting multiple video embeds in a thread puts a heavy demand on the page.
It can result in very slow loading, especially on older computers, and in some cases hanging of the browser or all out crashing. For the benefit of those with less than optimum hardware, may I suggest instead a hyperlink?
I'm just sayin'...

Barry, I've actually been noticing the forum in general loading quite a bit slower lately, though the past couple of days not so much. Seems a couple of the changes disagree with my browser. Youtube embeds don't effect it any, but for some reason loading any page there's a second or two of lag.

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
None of the changes to the interface should have any affect at all on loading times since the only things of significance that have changed are the colors and a few very small images. None of these has added anything to the overhead of the site, they're simply replacements of what was there.Warrn wrote:Barry, I've actually been noticing the forum in general loading quite a bit slower lately, though the past couple of days not so much. What I am seeing is more delay loading the targeted Google Ads at the top of the page. That momentarily 'hangs' the page content loading. There also a slight delay sometimes from the server accessing our site. You add the two things and you will experience a noticeable lag. I think this more a function of increased membership than anything done to the look and feel of the site. More users=more server hits, and more work to prepare the personalized Google Ads. I think we're simply the victims of our own success here. The traffic is also w-a-a-y up on the information web site. It's currently tracking at 5000 hits a month, 75% of which are new visitors.
We do own the info site, but, unfortunately, we can do nothing about either situation here. We don't own the hosting facilities and we cannot remove the ads, at least not without paying for the privilege. It's the ads which make this site 'free'.
I should also mention for the benefit of those using Firefox 13 (the latest)...there is currently an incompatibility issue with the latest version of Flash (which powers YouTube videos). That may also be causing problems for some. My advice is to switch to IE (ugh!) Or Chrome or Safari. No problem with them AFAIK.

Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
Barry,
I switched the video links as you asked. Hope this helps.
On my phone the site has gotten very laggy. I've noticed that both the ads and the scrolling link to the archives do lag and jump around alot. The price we pay for fame, apparently.

Thanks Steve. The page did seem to load quicker.Iceman wrote:Barry,

Um, as mentioned a couple of times in the Site Updates thread, this full version of the site is certainly not optimized for mobiles and will run ragged. If you switch to the mobile version, it is provided entirely by the forum host but it is in Beta stage at the moment. On my phone the site has gotten very laggy. Re: Here's a little blast from the past for y'all..
Yes I do realize that the mobile version runs better but much functionality is lost by using that option. Things have run even more "choppily" than usual as of late, but the increased traffic would seem to be a reasonable explanation for it.
Like I said, it's the price we pay for becoming popular... but I'm okay wid'it...
