Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
I was kidding - I got the TRC - although it really would suck to lose it.
but I did forget to wet sand it - at least that should go pretty quick

That's looking good.
What happened up the side of the fingerboard where it meets the body?

good eye eh - It is a bit of the tinted amber that I thought was all gone, and did not notice till I put the stain on that it would not apply there. I did not want to mess with the coat of stain (first time trying it) so I figured I'd leave that one tiny little bit hoping no one would notice

That is a thing of beauty and a brave colour choice which has really paid off for you. Can't wait to see it all nailed together. Take a bow.

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
Thanks for the compliments folks
I finished the final buff and started to put it back together - took this shot:
and as I started adding the rest of the parts, I had to stop - all the parts are aged, ugly and worn. So I think I will be replacing most of the stuff.
The tuners are good. I need new PUP rings, screws, 3 way switch, replacement pots to split coils, jack (needs to be black, current is chrome)
The biotch is the BMD. I know there was a black BMD on Ebay about a year ago that looked new - wish I grabbed it. My current one is in dire need of a good cleaning/rust removal /painting?
It's just going to look Wrong on this guitar now - know what I mean?
If anyone has a clean BMD that is black - I got a Chrome one in perfect condition for trade - maybe I will post in the for sale/trade threads

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
Sand and repaint. Or better yet, find another Westie with the same trem in good condition and buy it. Trade trems on it, and then turn around and resell the guitar (now with your old trem on it, let somebody else sand and paint it). That way you'll be out minimal money and you'll have a great looking trem for the ocean blue Pantera.

As nice as it's come out.
Thought you would have corrected that bit. It looks like an unfinished job
After coming so far..
Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
I'm looking into plating it - I know some one who does it, but looks like a LOT of detail work to get it cleaned - the rust seems to be the biggest issue there.
I also found some flame maple PUP rings that I am wondering if they would look good on it if I stained them the same - something to think about.

It was not noticable till the stain was down, and I was worried about sanding it out and restaining - I think that may have made things worse, but it really is a small bit that I'm ok with. As long as nothing else goes ary

and was very tired of the sanding this time - I'm thinking maybe 9 hrs total on this one. No more Pantera sanding for me

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
So I ordered a bunch of stuff to get this going and thought...wait since I have a near mint chrome BMD, why not use that?
So what do you think:
Chrome BMD, cream PUP rings, cream switch cover
or
wait for the nice black BMD, or make mine nicer, and use the black PUP rings?
I'm leaning towards the chrome at the moment - with the cream rings, and then wait to find a set of chrome westone tuners - it would look more PRSish in the long run and brighten it up a bit
To be honest, I', in flux right now on what I want the final parts to be. I got my awesome knobs from Tiv, and the rest I have options.
I'm also thinking of putting in some semour duncan PUPs in it (my fav set) as I think when this is done, this is gonna be my fav player as well as a looker.
choices choices.. i yi yi.

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
I'm ordinarily not wild about chrome pickup covers (or covers, period, for that matter) but I think it would look good here. And creme trim? Absolutely!sarcaster wrote:...So what do you think:

Black might be too dulling and detract from that beautiful finish.
Then again, zebra pups in creme...mmm, tasty.

Cream and chrome would look nice. More classy than black. And if you don't like it you can just change them later.

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
Here's a look with the PUP covers removed and the light PUP rings and switch tip and with the chrome BMD.
hmmm. I think it looks good like this, and also with the all black look too. Maybe I'll change it up from time to time.

This.
Though given the choice I'd go for all black hardware... the whole stealth option!!

I do like the all black stealth look, but with the cream PUP rings and chrome hardware it really reminds me of my first PRS. Whale Blue, cream PUPS, chrome hardware - unfortunately I had to sell it. So I will go along this path for now, and maybe change it to all black later

Re: Pantera X350MA Restore
So with some tuners from Westbone and new knobs from Tvill installed (thanks guys), I am nearly done with this one. It's all wired up except for the jack, and I think I'm going to make some new plates for the back so they look new, or if I use the ones it has, I at least want new screws so it is looking as new as possible.
Here's how it looks currently:

Thanks eh! Each one I refinish has been better than the previous, and to be honest, practice makes closer to perfect each time. I'm hoping the two finishes I'm working on currently come out even better, but I am proud of this one particularly and appreciate all the nice comments from all during this thread.
