Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
Feeling a bit nostalgic and am wondering if anyone has one of these laying around they wouldn't mind letting go of.
Ideally I'd find a Black one (WE2500BK), but I'm not going to be too picky right now.
Thank you in advance!

Re: Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
Hmmmm, I found this one...
http://mobile.craigslist.org/msg/2250350402.html
A little banged up, looks like replaced pups. Not badly priced (but not sure if he'll ship).
One thing I'm not sure of is if that's a Spectrum II or something else. Did they ever make another Spectrum model with H/S/H?

Looks similar, I agree; yep, p'ups have been swapped out and dunno about the bridge but $85 is pretty bloody cheap, eh!! If you're handy enough could be a good wee project?!

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking it could be re-finished (if I really had to) and make it look just like new again.

A search tip for you... and I'm sharing one of my search secrets here, searchtempest.com. I look there about every other day for Westones/Electras. You can search Craigslist nationally that way. Also call your local music stores, tell them what you're interested in and have them call you if they run across one. What will happen is this: When someone brings their WE2500BK in to the store to sell, the store will get their info. The store will call you, you'll ask them what the condition is and you'll offer them a price. The store will then call the guitar owner back and make them an offer based on what your's was. It works, but not if you don't try it.
Your WE2500BK is out there somewhere waiting on you, and it's like brand new, one that's been in a closet or under a bed since it was bought, I know it is. I know because I found my mint condition Dynasty that way.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I'll have to check out searchtempest.com.The Chad wrote:A search tip for you... and I'm sharing one of my search secrets here, searchtempest.com. I've used the music category of Jaxed.com for quite a while. It searches all of craigslist, ebay & kijiji (ebay classifieds) or you can exclude any of them. http://jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?cat=mus. That's how I found the above one.

Ba-dump-bump!!
Yeah that is one of my regular search querying terms. Not good news my man. Craigslist or Kijiji seem the best route. Saw one each in the last 4 months or so.... one sold in an hour and the other didn't want to ship from Vancouver.
How ya' been anyway? Keeping those tastebuds in fightin' trim?

That isn't a Spectrum II, it's a Spectrum ST. He's looking for a Korean model.

Re: Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
MIK builds seem to be more susceptible to hit or miss builds. I suppose it may have something to do with Westone scrambling abit to find a suitably trained workforce after Mats closed shop. Parts tended to be a bit scattered ( or so it has been alleged ) and so the cachet is somewhat lessened compared to MIJ models.
Speaking in the defense I will share that I just picked up a WE5400 which is a 1989 MIK and once I figured out that Bendmaster FR it set up quite nicely and REALLY puts out... if you follow me.

Re: Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
I dunno about that; the Koreans I've seen so far have been pretty bloody good as regards build quality etc.; I've got a couple too, and they're just fine! They do suffer from very generic p'ups though, especially the humbuckers which don't seem to have the grunt or individuality of the MMKs...

Re: Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
Well, this is more sentimental than anything. I'm happy with my main guitar (see avatar) and have a couple others that get regular time. The Spectrum II is just something I want...

Re: Wanted: Spectrum II (WE2500)
Re-read my last and it does smack of unfair comment. I should have stressed the SEEMS TO much more forcefully.
John has neatly nailed it squarely on its head. Besides the aforementioned Dimension I have also had a half-dozen or so MIK's in hand and all were still quite well and sound examples. Too much devil's advocate bleeding thru my last post.
So much MATS, MATS, MATS at times. The later models are no slouched themselves. Have read fantastic testimonials in. re. to the Sid Poole designs as well, just not fortunate to have held one as of yet.
The original spirit and intent of your post is still valid and understandable. Most can relate to the desire to recapture that remembrance of earlier days.
Chin up and shoulders square Richard. One is out there and it will be yours!!
