Jedson Les Paul Empty Jedson Les Paul

Post by hoax Thu Jan 20, 2011 10:27 am

I recently acquired this and posted some details on Matsumoku.org. I thought I would share it with you. It has aged nicely and its natural hew has gone a bit amber/yellow.

I have a few other recent acquisitions and I will have to get my finger out and post some images.

Cracking bit of flame on the that mate! cyclops cyclops cyclops

You might have already seen it, but there is a small info site on Jedson guitars HERE.

I have one of Jedson's Tiesco built Tele(ish! Rolling Eyes) copies, shown here above my unknown model thought to be an Audition, also Tiesco made.

Thanks Dan

I had a little look on the Jedson site and there are some like mine but with 4 bolt necks. Your little guitars remind me of my first, a Kay, which I bought used in 1973/4 for £15.

That is a nice top. The body's built like the early 70's Gibbo les pauls 'sandwich' style.
Does it say anything on the pickup bottom, like 'super 70's'.

How's that 'cheap' rainbow going? Lucky sod.

Westbone

The pickups were non original generic covered humbuckers. I changed the bridge pickup to my Dimarzio/MMk45 zebra hybrid. I took the cover off the front pickup and did the Peter Green magnet flip to give out of phase when the toggle is in the middle. I also colour matched a plug that had been inserted between the control knobs. I assume that at one time it had a coil tap. I am thinking of converting to full set neck. What do you think? I am pretty certain its a Matsumoku as it is identical in construction to some Univox and early Arias.

The cheap rainbow is looking great. I will try to post some info and pictures tonight.

Oh yeah baby! What a gorgeous maple cap!
As Westbone says, it just screams "70's" construction...and I'll just bet she screams "rock and roll" too. Jedson Les Paul Thumb_up

Hmm. don't want to rattle any cages but are Jedson/ Teisco guitars any good?

To me the golden age of MIJ guitars is 78/79 when Uncle Mat started production of the Westone ranges/ Washburn Hawk series/ Aria etc through to about 87/88 when MIJ became MIK (transfer of production to Korea).

These old MIJ guitars are coming up on ebay and sometimes sell for low prices but are they players or wall-hangers?

I cannot speak for other models but mine is just a rebadged Aria or Univox so I believe it was made at the Matsumoku factory. Also as mine has non original electrics, I cannot speak regarding the original pickups/pots etc.

I do remember playing a lot of 70's copies when I was a lad, some were good, some were bad, but when I was a teenager, I could not level frets, adjust truss rods, action and intonation.

I now believe that some of the poor ones could have been a lot better with a decent setup. Some did, however, have crappy little single coil pickups hidden under humbucker covers, rubbish machine heads and cheap ply bodies.

So to sum up, there are plenty of other gems out there including other Matsumoku products.

It has another 2 bolts on the inside which screw the tenon of the neck onto the body, so effectively it has 4 bolts just like the normal construction. It would easily convert to a full set neck but I am a bit concerned about non reversible customisation.
