Spotted this by accident. Absolutely gutted, exactly the one I want, as usual it's collect only and on the other side of the bloody country.

That's beyond a "deal". It's a give away!

I'm sure you know why, you gotta bid more to be sure of getting the item. £51 is still a very low price. I wonder if the winner is going to collect it, and get the bass and amp for that price and nowt more.

You gotta be patient, you will see from most completed Westone guitars bidding history that the winner usually always gets it in the last few seconds of the auction.

That is exactly what I did on my last 3 Westone wins (and my other ebay wins)... set yourself a budget watch it and wait to the last 10 seconds to bid and snipe it......no one will have time to outbid you unless of course someone has put in a higher bid, in which case it doesn't matter cos it's gone over your budget.

I never bid before the last few seconds unless I don't really want the guitar enough and am just hoping for a bargain, but I have never won a guitar that way

Yeah that's the usual course of action... a couple last night shot from 60 odd to 110ish in a matter of seconds, which is a bit more than I can manage atm

If you sit biting your nails watching the countdown, then you're gonna have a stroke.
Just decide from the outset what your limit is, then enter that off the top. The software will automatically match and beat any other bids which are still below your maximum. If they exceed your limit, no harm, no foul, that was your maximum. Otherwise it's yours!

If you insist on bidding manually, a good technique is to not bid in even increments ($5, $10, $25, etc) especially towards the end of the auction. Better to enter an odd amount like $13.74 or what seems appropriate.

I'd be more likely to have a stroke watching my high bid been eaten away until I lose the auction.

I never bid early because I may change my mind about the item after a few days because a more desirable one has been listed .......and then I'd be hoping to be outbid so I could chase the new item....

My method is to watch what things sell for. Then I'll know that if I want X, then I need to pay £Y. For example, I think a Thunder 1A guitar with phase reversal and actives on/off would be useful to me. And £150 is about what it will cost, provided that I'm patient enough. I'm putting a lot of bids on now, but those are just lowball bids "just in case". By the time my self-imposed slowly growing (or recovering from the negative Very Happy ) guitar buying budget has recovered to £150, then I'll know what's what. Then I'll be bothered about last minute bids and the like. But if I keep bidding and don't get one, then my guitar buying budget will increase, and maybe I'll go to £200. All things come to those who wait and all that.
