1986? Prestige 250 (Ebay USA)
I had to put this one on here, just look at it!!!
Westone Prestige 250 Electric Guitar - Buy It Now $1,199 USD
This is a beautiful example of Matsumoku quality with a stunning flame maple top, the only thing thats odd about this one is it's serial number. This has an '86 number but the original model seems to have disappeared around 1984. Our info site mentions HERE - at the bottom of the page - that it may have been reissued around 1986 to '88 and known as the Prestige II ?

It's an 86, the serial number doesn't lie. I thought it was generally accepted that the Prestige models were reissued? Maybe I'm remembering things wrong again. Either way, I wouldn't doubt the serial number.

Stunning, but pricey even in UK terms.
I've done the math and added carriage to UK + customs duty and it's an eye-watering amount. Still want it though

Just to clarify, I don't doubt that it's from 1986, it was just the fact it means that this must be the reissue model.
I'm still learning new things about Westone every day, I did'nt think they would have started to reissue these two years after originally stopping production! By '87 the new shape Series II Spectrums were starting to appear and some of the older shapes were being discontinued. I was just thinking they couldn't have to made to many of these before the final move away from Matsumoku.

Right..surprising to me (as well) that a reissue would happen after 2 years.

Re: 1986? Prestige 250 (Ebay USA)
Could very ell be a later one (86) . The original ones had a bone nut. The later 227's had a graphite nut, so does this one.
Doubt the nut would have been changed, looks like it's hardly been played. Why change a nice bone nut for graphite, with no trem??? Brass nuts on the Thunder models disappeared later on?? Certainly a VERY nice guitar, I've an early 250 and they are one beautiful sounding and looking guit. Got a lot to do with the alnico 2 magnet in the pickups, sweet.

Just looking - jealously - at the auction photos again. Zoom in on the first pic, it seems to have a clear stick-on scratch plate fitted. Never noticed it before, is that a Westone thing or after-market?

Dunno, but it's a nice touch, and shows some respect for that beautiful finish.DuoFuzz wrote:Just looking - jealously - at the auction photos again. Zoom in on the first pic, it seems to have a clear stick-on scratch plate fitted. Never noticed it before, is that a Westone thing or after-market?

Re: 1986? Prestige 250 (Ebay USA)
$850 seems to be the going price. I sold my Westone Rainbow II for $875 about a year ago.
Got some solid sales to set the price of these babies.
